steve gunn/shawn david mcmillen - end of the city - dnt / abaddon / abandon ship - lp - 12$
Co-released with DNT and a new label called Abaddon, this LP finds
these two very talented musicians in their prime. Steve's side clearly
displays his guitar wizardry, while remaining honest and heartfelt.
After several years with GHQ, Steve has sharpened his skills, and it
really shows. If you've had the pleasure of seeing him perform live,
you know exactly what I mean.
Shawn's recent collaborations with Warmer Milks seep through on his
side of the album. Bleaker and darker than Steve's side, Shawn tells
his tale through guitar, piano, synth and tape manipulation. It's
completely engrossing. With it's many crooked bends and turns, it will
lead you to a sort of discomforting fulfillment that gets more intense
with each listen.

queen elephantine - kailash - abandon ship records – cass- 5$
"Kailash takes its name and guiding spirit from the mythical Himalayan
peak on which the Destroyer dwells in the state of perpetual
meditation, in the deathless state."
Originally hailing from Hong Kong, this New York-based group is
bringing something entirely new to the table. Hypnotic eastern-tinged
drones create the backdrop for their dark and brooding vocals.
Creating something truly unique, and definitely the first of it's kind
on Abandon Ship. Keep an eye out for more from Queen Elephantine in
the coming months. Their future is bright, although their sounds may
not be!

We kicked things off in high gear with some FM static-influenced
jamming, culminating in a junction of distorted meuhs and synth-
crunch. With a short, Excepter-inspired jam in between, leading into
some ethereal cosmo-noise to end the first side.
Side B is a live set recorded at our friend Math Bill's place on the
magical island of Broad Channel, NY. Lo-fi skuzz-noise at it's finest.

slasher risk - shoe mania - abandon ship records – cass- 5$
In true spontaneous/on the spot/spur of the moment fashion, this tape
was recorded live on the first night of the first bi-annual Eye and
Ear record fair and music festival (http://
nyeyeandear.wordpress.com/). We used a hi-fidelity digital recording,
which was immediately brought home and put to tape that was packaged
and ready to sell at the beginning of the second day of the fair! It
was quite the achievement. To ensure we could fit the entire recording
on tape, we used c62s, which resulted in some extra empty space at the
end of side B. But fear not, there is still approximately 45 minutes
of some of the most intense Slasher Risk live recordings to date. They
absolutely tore the place apart on this now historical night. Claim
your piece of the pie and grab this one before it's gone.

antique brothers - sons of winter - abandon ship records – cdr - 6$
"This album was conceived in the cold unforgiving days between the end
of 2006 and the start of 2007. My brother and I were together in the
land we grew up in for the first time in almost a year. We improvised
acoustic duets, and over the next year, built a record around them. I
like to think the spirit of our Mother was present during these
sessions. Our Father was present in body as well as spirit. We thank
him for opening his doors and heart to us, as he has done time after
time since we have both left home on our own roads." - Cy Gengras

"Recorded mostly in 2007 when most of my dreams consisted of running
into a crystalline water mass. Safe to say, usually awoke with no

stirred briskly into 1 part acoustic + 1 part synth anaesthetic
equaling out a hefty mess of sun dogs." - Nickolas Mohanna

Deep, dark, scuzzed out jams recorded through a rift in the time-space

a comparison to Mouthus, but these guys have tapped into something
truly unique. Turn it up loud.

patriotic window klings - abandon ship records – cdr - 6$
Ankle deep in effluent and reverb, these southern hermits keep it
realer than real, (unrealer than unreal?). The Patriotic Window Klings
are definitely plotting their own course through the yellow pine dust,
dragging an ostentatious tail through the whole shebang, and spitting
out some pretty brutal shards.
Is that the sound of a broken Casio being dragged by a 1987 mustang
cougar down 2 miles of gravel road, or are my ears hallucinating? Did
TS Mc Phee break a couple of his fingers, get together with Graham
Lambkin, and record some blasted out soundscapes on a Vicodin jag?
If you're hip to Blues Control, Sun Araw and some of the other more
hazy, dirt encrusted psych explorers currently practicing the Art –
you will definitely get something out of the Klings.

the julie mittens featuring lexie mountain -abandon ship records – cdr - 7$
The Julie Mittens were among the first groups that I asked to do a
release for Abandon Ship Records. It's been nearly a year now, and
well worth the wait. They've made some treacherous waves over the past
few years, from their Sloow tape to their latest Holy Mountain
release. This one is no exception.
Fresh off their US tour, the Julie Mittens decided to properly
document it with sister releases on ASR and the Netherland's own Cut
Hands (http://www.cuthands.net/catalog.htm) label, respectively. Not
only are the two releases completely different from each other, but
each CDr is housed in it's own one-of-a-kind sleeve which boasts a
unique photo taken on their US tour. That's 200 different sleeves in
total, with screenprinting on each taboot!
Recorded by Steve Sanford at the Golden West Cafe in Baltimore on
September 10th, and features Baltimore's own Lexie Mountain on vocals
for the 2nd track.

fallen smoke captures the live debut, from april 2008, of rambutan, the solo project of eric hardiman from century plants and burnt hills. vastly different than either of those units, rambutan finds hardiman in a completely new mode, with no guitars in sight. the results are hauntingly beautiful, intensely personal, and utterly compelling, with a warm, organic feel throughout. the music builds in intensity ultimately hypnotizing the listener in its gathering tractor beam of psychedelic gauzy haze. jump right in.

Reticent to Manifest was made on a cold summer's night in Los Angeles... High on salsa verde and the thick brown air, three men went in and one long string of sound came out. As Brian Sullivan still flies high from his performance at No Fun Fest
this year, we've prepared a gem of a release from this half of the now
legendary Mouthus. While feeding off of similar meditative vibes of
the aforementioned Brooklyn duo, he manages to put together a cohesive
collection of distinct tracks he can call his own. Infinite layers of
blown out fuzz dominate some tracks, and deep, trance-inducing rhythms
prevail in others. Another primer for an up-and-coming ASR LP, due
later this year. Keep your eyes peeled. And as with most Mouthus-
related material, this one will not be around for very long.

Another mind-blowing recording from the vaults of Clayton Noone (The Futurians, CJA) and Kaaterama Morehucan (Smokehouse). This one is older than the CJA/Smokehouse tape we released last year, but you would think it's a natural progression from it. Teamed up with Sugar Jon, the three of them jaunt through some rocking numbers, wailing away on their guitars, drums, and vocal chords. It's a short, but epic follow up for sure. This ultra limited release will whet your collective pallets for the upcoming Sundowner LP, which again, features CJA and Smokehouse. Keep an eye out for that late this year/early next. In the meantime, crank the volume on this one while you're sipping some lemonade under the hot summer sun. It's *that* chill.

Glitter Vomit was recorded on Mini-Disc at The Pines during the phantom power sabotage incident, winter 2007. Unphased and deep-zoned, we ripped through their inspirational cue cards like "Thin Testicles", "Free Boogie, White Boy" and "Fuck You! No! Not You! You! - Fela Kuti"... the pope - do you wanna boogie - abandon ship records – 3" cdr- 5$
"The duo of Paul Kneejie and Brian Watson are American popular musicians known collectively as The Pope. They met in elementary school in 1953, when they both appeared in the school play Alice in Wonderland (Kneejie as the Dodo, Watson as Dweedle Dum). They formed the group Tom and Jerry in 1957, and had their first taste of success with the minor hit "Hey Schoolgirl... Boogie". As The Pope, the duo rose to fame in 1965 backed by the hit single "The Sound of Silence Boogie Woogie". Their music was almost featured on the landmark film Star Wars, propelling them further into the public consciousness. They are well known for their close harmonies and sometimes unstable relationship. Their last album, Boogie Over Troubled Water, was marked with several delays caused by artistic differences. Kneejie and Watson were among the most popular recording artists of the 1960s, and are perhaps best known for their songs "The Sound of Silence Boogie", "Mrs. Robinson Boogie", "Boogie over Troubled Water" and "The Boxer Boogie". They have almost received several Grammys and are hoping to be inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (2007). In 2004, Rolling Stoned ranked The Pope #420 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Boogie.

slasher risk - vole - abandon ship records – cass - 5$
Voles are small rodents similar to mice but with stouter bodies and shorter hairy tails. Vole introduces some new ideas and textures into the Slasher Risk catalog. The A side sees us on one hand going deeper into the realm of electronic noise, offering our first use of looping and tape manipulation, harsher junk-electronic material with an extended almost Native American style war-drumming throughout, while on the other hand also displaying something otherwise unprecedented in our other recordings, a surprising venture into more traditional 'rock' territory, albeit improvised, featuring a steady drum groove and fuzzed out yet discernible guitar with reverberated, echoing vocals. The B side is more akin to an audio map of the opening scene in Macbeth. Heavy dark and stormy nighttime textures in the soundscape, distant lightning flashes, lots of toil-and-trouble fair-is-foul style black arts going on in the negative space between sage and incense wafts. We were using all kinds of crazy cooking and kitchen tools, pots and pans, some cat-grooming brushes, broken radios, c.b. transmitters, and various containers of water and microphones. Uncooked rice ended up everywhere. Don't take that dose operating heavy machinery.

buck paco - ive wasted my breath - abandon ship records – 3" cdr - 5$
"Over the last ten or so years, Buckland Oswald Paco and company have amassed a collection of recorded material in excess of 100 songs (for lack of a better word).
About 95 percent of which have never been released. Falling short of wasting no part of the animal, the band have done their best to whittle down their portfolio small enough to fit the three-inch format.
Clocking in at somewhere in the 20+ minute range, "I've Wasted my Breath" is a rather abridged, but cherry-picked survey of The Buck Paco Band's catalogue.
All the slag has been neatly scraped away, leaving five solid gems on which to ruminate just long enough to realize the disc is already over and you need to start it up again."

futurians - zenet - abandon ship records – 3" cdr - 5$
An unprecedented surprise from these New Zealanders. This one definitely stands out amongst the sludge-punk releases of old. Completely different approach here. The first main difference you'll notice will be the absence of any vocals. The second will be the absence of any drummer. And the third will be the absence of any common Futurianistics you've grown to know and love. Fear not, for it's just as punk-fucking-rawk as anything they've ever done...just in a different way. If you really do love them, then you will love this release. If you have yet to discover this unbelievable group, then this will definitely get you started on the wrong foot. Futurian Clayton Noone (CJA) and Kaaterama Morehucan (Smokehouse) unite for this recording and churn up some of the most lackadaisical and hazy sounds in recent history. At times Morehucan evokes the presence of Flying Canyon's Cayce Lindner with his soulful voice and gentle nature. Yet he is subdued and even more laid back than the late, great Lindner. When Clayton presented me with this recording he said of Morehucan, "He can actually play and sing and some of it sounds rather smooth and in tune, until I come along and wreck things." I think he summed it up perfectly with that statement.

Black paint was applied to convey mourning or that the fires of revenge had burned out in his heart and that he was now repentant. Red spots were printed over a coat of black on his face. The red spots representing bullets. He would also add red to his mouth to indicate bleeding from a wound received in battle. The other wore a wolf skin over his head and shoulders, the tip of the wolves nose painted red. The lower half of his face was painted white from ear to ear, his body painted in imitation of the blue wolves. Red paint on his hands and wrists symbolized blood. The death society had songs that were sung at its gatherings but they had been lost, together with all the customs once observed. The two of them sat down and began to sing these songs in a great pulsating voice. Armed only with pulsing electronics and wailing walls of bass, the hunt is on.

Papa Smurf... was recorded last year at my summer palace in Bushwick Brooklyn... It was part of a new experiment I was doing with recording digitally straight to disc burner...and multitracking on disc... I recorded 2 songs from a Don Cherry disc my friend David Sauter, an avid bootleg disc trader, made for me... It's apparently from some Italian t.v. show in the 70's... The next track is an experiment with amp feedback ... plugging a lead from a headphone out jack to the input of an amp... through some pedals and manipulation the pure line feedback.. I recorded this digitally and added noise guitar and tape effected drums digitally as well... The last song is my best take of a popular Byrds song... a poorer version of which ended up on my Ming Aralia cd... This Disc is dedicated to my friend David Sauter who passed away last year on the 4th of july... and to his wife Aleve and son Otis... Papa Smurf smiles down on you from heaven...

bring together a sound that few others in the scene can compare to.
Seasoned veterans at this point, the two of them have a wonderful
sense of interaction and playing off of each other. This album is
beautifully dark and wondrous; terribly serene and introspective.
For those of you who know and love Time Life, this will not
disappoint. If you have yet to hear them, then this is a great place
to start.
