a.m. - rag red reverie –pseudo arcana– cd – 12$
Full on over-the-top psychedelic noise guitar assault from Antony Miltons A.M project. With beats!
Eschewing the last vestiges of embarrassment at several years 'lost' to rave culture in the late 90s A.M channels the furious ecstasies of phasing tones and pounding beats through electric guitar lined red hot into an ancient tape recorder to produce a riff driven avant-party album... With its endless driving riffs and noise incursions ascending to ever higher levels of intensity the sudden free falls into sudden deep ambient bliss are like the first glimpses of dawn on a mountain top on acid..
And then the beats kick in again.
A 'wave your arms in the air' boogie noise record? Who would have thought?

attar cups - untitled - blackest rainbow – lp - 20$
We hit up our fourth vinyl release with this beauty which was originally intended to be a cassette only release (it still will be available on cassette, but only in a tiny run). This Maine based crew features a host of psychedelic jam talent... Nemo of Drona Parva and head honcho of Time-Lag Records, Sparrow Wildchild of The Bummer Road, and the three members of Visitations, whose record on Time-Lag last year was one of 2007's best! So this is the second recording from this crew, the first being last years Sloow Tape. This beast is different to the Sloow vibe, still with a super nice jam band sound, but projecting to a maybe more 'song' (in the loosest possible way) based plane, a little like Visitations. Edition of 299 hand numbered copies with zero info and 11" x 11" stickers on the front and back of black sleeves.

the bad statistics - lucky town gone –pseudo arcana– cd – 12$
On the follow up to last years debut "Static" LP ((Kr-aa-k)3) The Bad Statistics have set about laying waste to the New Zealand suburban dream with this album, a much darker and heavier affair than their debut. Led by a bald suit clad psychopath named Thebis Mutante (rumoured to be the alter-ego of NZ improv/fire music impressario Jeff Henderson) who chants and howls and grunts throughout their doom laden droning rock mantra the closest comparison I have been able to come up with is some sort of hybrid of The Birthday Party, Circle, and The Reynols.
If the debut LP were to be regarded as the Mission Statement of Bad Statistics Great Annual Report in the Sky, "Lucky Town Gone" is not the Business Highlights chapter to be expected next, but a sideways lurch straight to Appendix 17: Corrupted Data.
Recorded onto degraded old cassette tape, "Lucky Town Gone" is a collection of mean-spirited practice room jams that sees the core four-piece of BAD STATISTICS further embracing the stoner doom drone rock that already defined large parts of "Static".
The seven tracks of "Lucky Town Gone" are again spearheaded by the abrasive, sense-eluding vocal emissions of Thebis Mutante. Critical response to Mutante¹s contributions on "Static" was deeply divided, and the new album is expected to further polarise opinions. Mutante is backed by Mark Williams (Marineville, Idle Suite, Cookie Brooklyn) on guitar, Justin Barr (Raskolnikovs, Users, Wrongdoings, Delaney Ghost Orchestra) on bass, and Johannes Contag (Jay Clarkson, Cloudboy, Sleepytime) on drums and production.

child bride - reflections on prism city - blackest rainbow – cdr - 11$
OK, so I don't support any kids getting married to old dudes, its not cool... but then this is a new recording by THE Child Bride! Spooked vocals, weird clunks, cut up surreal vibes, this one is a real slayer, almost like some kinda fucked up singer songwriter noise styles. The killer gem here has gotta be 'Rabbit Moon', some far out repetitive churns, some how blurring supremely with some thudding rumbling, and then some killer trance drugged vocal, that'll hypnotize your mind man! crystal stilts – s/t – woodsist – 12" – 14$
Crystal Stilts started in Brooklyn in 2003 as Brad Hargett and JB Townsend. Not really trying to be a "band" they recorded and self-released their single "Shattered Shine" on their Feathery Tongue label in '04 with friend Sean Mafucci (producer of Gang Gang Dance, Psychic Ills, Kid Congo Powers etc.) With no shortage of lazy Jesus and Mary Chain and Factory records comparisons, (more like VU, Felt, and Blue Orchids) in 2005-06 they continued to play in New York with bands such as the Long Blondes, 1990s and The Monochrome Set and recorded a 4 song ep. Kyle Forrester (Ladybug Transistor etc. etc.) joined them at gigs playing organ as well. After a brief hiatus to record there back catalogue for upcoming LP (Slumberland) they adopted Andy Adler (who played bass on Eric Copeland of Black Dice fuzzpop outfit Ninjas) to rock the bass. After opening for the Clean in November, Frankie Rose (Vivian Girls) waltzed into their life to play the stand-up drums and complete the equation.
compiles their 12" ep and the "Shattered Shine" 7inch.

Denmark is a place teeming with half fried organic drone crews such as Sarah’s Charity and Family Underground. maniacs dream - zanzibar – arbor - lp – 12$
Finland is the epicenter of collective music making. Under the name Maniacs Dream, members of Finnish bands such as Avarus, Fricara Pacchu, Kemialliset Ystävät, and more come together to create blown out free rock. Their unique/bizarre approach to music making, constantly questioning the construction/deconstruction of sound creates songs at times recalling the electro acoustic clatter drone of Avarus crossed with tribal rhythms and intergalactic kraut rock guitar zones. Total sonic freedom with a punk ethos directly influenced by a trip to Zanzibar prior to recording this record (which is a reissue of the long sold out tape originally released on Lal Lal Lal in 2006). phantom buffalo - take to the trees - time lag
records - lp - 25$
red records #3... well, its been a damn long time since we released their debut album, “shishimumu”, back when they were called THE PONYS, but we sure are happy there’s finally a proper follow-up, even if it took six years to happen. if anything, the long wait says something to the greatness & humility of the band; never bending to commercial concerns, ego, hype, or changing trends & changing times. in fact, “take to the trees” picks up just about right where “shishimumu” left off all those years back, another little nugget of timeless psychedelic pop perfection. of course, there is a new level of maturity and depth to the songwriting here, but there's still plenty of slightly naive & youthful charm... and to be certain, the world these guys create is just as surreal now as its always been... musically, things come together just right, with thick, swirling, chiming triple electric guitar textures, spot-on drumming, liquid but powerful bass, gurgling moog, acoustic strumming, accordion, and sweet soaring fuzz-tones. vocals hover as high & sweet as ever, harmonizing, doubling, and layering heavenly. the mood of the album floats through drifting fragile melancholy, quirky pop, crunchy psychedelic rockers and anthemic rave-ups, often all within the same track. beautifully recorded, but never over polished... just the way a great pop record should be. so forget all pretense, folks, maybe not freak folk enough for kill rock stars ain’t such a bad thing at all... packaged in a lovely heavy weight 60s style gatefold cover with elaborate full color art by the band, plus an insert. pressed on 180gm bright red vinyl. hand numbered limited edition of 300 copies... first 150 copies come with a special BONUS CDR SINGLE featuring two outtakes deemed by the band "too downer” for the album. packaged in a color offset printed tri-fold cover with hand stamped disc art. numbered edition of 230 copies.

pink reason – winona – woodsist – 7" – 7$
"During a show with hardcore punks Hatefuck, DeBroux and company
traveled to Winona, Minnesota. After a five-hour drive to the town,
wasted locals, angry punks and gnarled three-legged dogs greeted them
by leading them into a commandeered park. Inside the park, DeBroux
found "the ultimate punk rock experience" with townies huffing rubber
glue and mohawk-brandishing kids starting fights with crusties. The
show ended and the locals gave the band three dollars for their
troubles. A few kids asked DeBroux and company to chip in the three
dollars on a keg. Soon, the crowd dispersed and left the band with no
money or place to stay. The band wound up sleeping on an island
between Minnesota and Wisconsin and breaking up soon thereafter. He
wrote the first Pink Reason song, "Winona," about this experience." -

bill quick - maravillosa gente - time lag
records - lp - 25$
long in the works reissue of this amazing and little know gem, “beautiful people”, from 1972. born in miami florida to an american father and venezuelan mother, bill split the usa to madrid spain in the early 70s. once there he quickly landed a recording deal with famous producer alain milhaud of the explosion label, and set to work on this, his sole lp release. sessions went down with an impressive cast of up to eleven players in the studio, including salvador dominguez & chema pellicó (cerebrum), jess lam (jess & james), and frank rojas (sangre). one of the albums real hidden treasures, though, was the assistance of unknown texan mark gottschall, who co-wrote the title track and adds perfect vocal harmonies as well a second acoustic guitar. a finely balanced mix of sounds that drifts between throbbing electric full band groove and gentle acidfolk. when bill wants to rock, things get downright funky, with a wickedly hard-hitting rhythm section, pumping organ, scorching electric leads, and flipped out acoustic guitars all locking into some seriously tight jams. then the next minute the mood swings and you’re deep into some beautifully fragile and introspective folk meditations; often just two acoustic guitars, bill’s lyrics, and huge, angelic, vocal harmonies all weaving together into lush tapestries of sound. a few tracks fill out a more folkrock vibe with flute, autoharp, piano, slide guitar, banjo, and more. bill’s lyrics (all in english) and vocals always feel deeply sincere, which combined with his unique voice, unusual accent, and loose delivery make for one hell of a cool singer. the whole album has an air of mystical psychedelia, yet never strays far from pop craft, and there's a real sun-blasted quality to it all that just makes you want to crank the volume... nothing amateur or lo-fi about this one, its a pro recordings and these guys have serious chops. its hard to image why it didn’t become a hit at the time. the album was released only in spain and brazil, to very little interest, and quickly became yet another great album lost to obscurity... at least until now... reissued here for the first time, with the collaboration of producer & explosion label owner alain milhaud. packaged in a heavy weight gloss coated exact reproduction of the original cover, including the the original double sided insert, as well as a huge new full color foldout insert which reproduces at nearly full size the totally different brazilian version of the album art. plus extensive notes by album musicians salvador dominguez & mark gottschall, and alex carretero (guerssen records, spain). also a small photo of some rare picture sleeves 45s, promotional inserts, lyric sheets, etc. even the lp labels reproduce the original psychedelic full color explosion label art. pressed on 180gm audiophile grade vinyl & limited to 1000 copies.

donovan quinn & the 13th month - sister alchemy - soft abuse - 7" - 5$
After several years of writing and recording, Donovan Quinn recently completed his proper debut, working as Donovan Quinn & the 13th Month. Before we get too far into the LP's hows and whys, we've got this single to serve as a taste of what will soon be. Sister Alchemy appears on the forthcoming LP. The Rabbits Tracks, wherein DQ channels Kris Kristofferson and Nikki Sudden with equal woozy prejudice, is exclusive to this release. Amazing sleeve art by Jill Storthz.
"Though best known for his work with the Skygreen Leopards, Quinn has been culling his private weird recordings since he lived in a rotting trailer in the suburban sprawl of Walnut Creek, California. Due to popular insistence, the man has finally gone solo. Quinn is a Marlboro man mystic channeled through Francois Hardy just woken from a nap: frowsy, susurrant
and surly. He curls out chords like Duane Eddy on ludes, strumming on some ether plane of American guitar groupmind. It warms my heart that perhaps people will hear Donovan and be able to discern a true contender from the hollow trees out there." - Elisa Ambrogio, Arthur Magazine

sun araw –boat trip – woodsist – 12" – 15$
Boat Trip might be some hidden soundtrack to Donkey Kong warp-whistling straight into Ayahuasca Country. In about twenty minutes Sun Araw manages to navigate a psychedelic jungle cruise through canopy din & spooked drone, then he noses the boat out of the water and lifts into uncharted dub-spheres. The back half of this entranced tour is like being (fortunately) trapped inside an old Upsetters jam played at half-speed with twice the shaman-chant and reverb drenched percussion. Normally we wouldn't trust taking this kind of trip with just anybody, but with wheel and rudder alike in the hands of Magic Lantern co-captain Cameron Stallones, we can sip our yage-of-choice in peace and share the Sun Araw vision as one.
