2673 - in dreams - dokuro - 3" cdr - 6$

"In dreams" is a new great "alpha-wave stimulating" drone piece on Dokuro, released by the hermetic monicker 2673.
The track evolve from a pileup of deep bass overtones to a rebounding aphex of noisy waves via calibrated permutations of sound colours. In dreams is a truly deep listening experience that will leave you disconnected from reality.
A fascinating masterpiece of this New Jersey sound artist who mix perfectly opposite aspects of sound like pure tones and noise textures.
2673 aka Kevin Winter have on his shoulder an impressive discography and many collaborations with other key figures of the american undergroud scene.
DK012 is released as a ltd. 70 copies.
Artwork by Merlo.

6majik9 - solid space – tape drift– cdr – 7$

A lovely, meandering psychedelic record from mysterious Aussie collective headed by Michael Donnelly of the Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood. Grounded in the blues, but as filtered through a totally weirded out shamanistic sensibility, this one is a grower and a keeper. If you allow yourself into its world, it will work a magical sort of hypnotism, and unlock multiple secrets of the universe.

6majik9 – ritualisimo putrido - mymwly – cdr - 10$

Gathering around a glowing moment…intent on discovery but distracted by the glorious light that seeps from the merging…so a record is kept to remind of the things thought seen, seen heard. Employing something closer to the sound as it grew, avoiding the clamor of the magnetics and spools…now a binary specter from a mirrored laugh…wasted but prettyComes in a hard card gatefold with hand painted (by the band) canvas stick on.

78 grave & the rocket 88s – i love the life at the door -mad monk–cdr – 12$

Brand new on James Toth’s MAD MONK ANNEX CDR imprint. Title taken from a poem by Poetry Out Loud guru Klyd Watkins. From the artist: "On hold with the Tennessee Department of Human Services for over 36 minutes, the initially innocuous 'hold music' - which resembled two bars of "The Way We Were" repeated ad infinitum - began to mesmerize / hypnotize, as my impatience slowly melted to peace, lulled as I was by this 16 second loop of muzak, which would cut off and repeat at random intervals. After finally getting through and dealing with my business, I decided to call back and record the music, which I was now obsessed with (possessed by?). This time I was only on hold for 21 minutes. I took what I had, doubled it, and did some very basic edits / treatments." Imagine a punk rock Distintegration Loops or a drug withdrawal-plagued take on some of The Caretaker's recent ballroom music. An unusually provocative and mysterious tablet of high audio doggerel. Fans of narcosynthesis, rejoice!

abe vigoda - skeleton - nnf - cass -7$

Shit is cliché, but ya can’t fight the fact that time changes EVERYTHING (or wait, maybe it's money?). Either way: we’re pretty old but not so old we’ve forgotten the cradle days of early Abe Vigoda shows when they only liked Smashing Pumpkins, short shorts, and boating shoes, and their sets were short spiky blasts of post-Unwound lo-fi outsider-punk (a la the Sky Route/Star Roof LP). That was a long time ago. But like all good bands the Vigodans have re-invented themselves a half dozen times over since then, and it’s been a totally rad ride to witness the evolution/transformation, especially since their journey’s culminated in the total sparkling tropic magic sunbath of Skeleton, the best AV record ever. Years of fiddling with delay pedal settings and intricate bass/drums equations somehow resulted in a weird, bright, upbeat island punk sound that’s as catchy and life-affirming as it is tripped-out and overwhelming. Who knew? Catch these die-hards at a show in yr neck of the woods any day now; they are now on PERMA-TOUR. Pro-dubbed cassettes in a “Columbia Records”-style super legit J-card. Edition of 200.

abolicao - flowring judas - cabin floor esoterica - cass - 7$

Debut no-zone strings project from Housecraft head honcho Jeff Astin. Blooming drifts through yellowed old photos, the buzzing hum of the old family car, nightmarishly beautiful and relaxing. aea / phosphene form - cry havoc... - myiasis tapes - cass - 7$

A side a piece from two former fellow jammers. AeA takes things uncharacteristically soft, trading off a bit of the angst and aggression for eeriness and disturbing atmosphere with a foundation of heavily reverb saturated drones and screams, low end tone crust featuring one of Hydeman’s old toys, and fluctuant skulk of high end bliss. Phosphene Form takes it up a notch with an implacable track of furious swirling loops via no input feedback. Rhythmic chaos oiled with delayed synth sputter and elevated drones. Potent, tormented and at the same time catchy.
Limited to 40.

The procession was timed so that she would be left alone on the scaffold at the moment the morning star rose. When the morning star appeared, two men came from the east with flaming brands and touched her lightly in the arm pits and groins. Four other men then touched her with war clubs. The man who had captured her then ran forward with the bow from the Skull bundle and a sacred arrow and shot her through the heart while another man struck her on the head with the war club from the Morning Star bundle. The officiating priest then opened her breast with a flint knife and smeared his face with the blood while her captor caught the falling blood on dried meat. All the male members of the tribe then pressed forward and shot arrows into the body. They then circled the scaffold four times and dispersed

tetuzi akiyama + kevin corcoran + christian kiefer - low cloud means death - digitalis recordings - cdr & 3"cdr - 16$

For years I've counted Tetuzi Akiyama as one of my absolute favorite guitarists. He's been cranking out great records for ages, honing his style and skill in every possible way. Add in Christian Kiefer, who has also put out a string of magnificent releases, and a talented drummer/percussionist in Kevin Corcoran (who has appeared on releases on Weird Forest and played in Antennas Erupt!) and you've got a recipe for something magical.

"Low Cloud Means Death" is a series of sea-inspired improvisations that are fighting a continual battle with the silence between each note. This is sparse music at its finest. Minimal notes float in the air as Corcoran lays a web of various percussion beneath the organic layer Akiyama and Kiefer weave. The instrumentation is varied - Akiyama sticks to acoustic guitar while Kiefer splits time on accordian, piano, and other vices. What the trio produces ends up coming off like an all-improvised Morton Feldman or something of the like.

This is a journey on salt-encrusted waves, traipsing through empty spaces in search of whatever aural mystery can be found. It goes something like this: Thump. Quiet again. Twang thump. Quiet. Quiet. Still quiet. Distant blap. And let me tell you, it is one fantastic voyage.

Limited to 500 copies. Artwork by Eden Hemming Rose.

Special edition limited to 100 copies includes bonus 3" CDR, "The Old Language," featuring a live performance by the trio. Hand-stamped covers.

jamie allen - circuitMusic - anathema sound - cass - 6$

Jamie Allen is a Canadian artist currently residing in the UK. With circuitMusic, he uses raw op amp components with minimal effects to experiment and revel in the sound of pure, electric signals. Allen’s compositions are streamlined, yet remarkably varied with harsh walls of static, dense drones, and playful rhythms all vying for the listener’s headspace. This piece has been performed at venues throughout North America including Tonic (NYC), Galapagos (NYC), Eyebeam (NYC), SAT (MTL), and the S.S. Marie Antoinette (WA). Be prepared to turn this one up extra loud and get lost in it. Full color artwork, inserts, and labels by Matt Yacoub.

altar of flies - flying over- foxglove - cdr -7$

altar of flies hails from the snowy world of mjölby, sweden. this moniker of mattias gustafsson (not to be confused with the broken face's mats gustafsson, or the saxophonist of the same name), and throughout "trapped under watter," this swede swims in metallic waves of ecstatic drones. gustaffson concocts washes of noise and feedback and bends them into shape, stretching the limits of each stolen note. this music is as thick like syrup, and just as fucken sweet.

altar of flies / sewer election - loco hills - release the bats – lp – 17$

Two of the best acts currently dwelling in the depths of the Swedish underground scene. Sewer Election should be well-known by now, previous releases includes a split 12" with Incapacitants, cds on Troniks and Chondritic Sound and the amazing Killing-tapes. Altar Of Flies has created quite a buzz over the last year with a huge amount of very limited tape/cd-r releases. On this split LP, Sewer Election contributes with the nasty Rotten Corpse. A crude and disgusting piece. Monotonous, freezing coldness. Altar Of Flies continues with his dark and eerie forest rumblings. Buried claustrophobic lo-fi insanity straight from hell. Heavy outbursts of feedback. Could've been outtakes from an old Dario Argento soundtrack. Mean-spirited ugliness from both bands.

a

altar of flies - the funeral tapes - 905 tapes - cass - 6$

originally released as a very private press on swedish imprint ksp, the material on "the funeral tapes" was just far to emphatic to stay hidden. mattias gustafsson, the whiz behind the altar of flies moniker, spends about a half an hour conjuring up narcotic vibes and sickly tantrums that boil down to some truly eerie sermons. everything from the layers of creep synth, the dense beats, even the sporadic moments of silence between stabs of feedback all manage to sound abnormal and perfect at the same time. the final track plays like a john carpenter tune (think escape from new york, not ghost of mars) with moments where you could imagine carpenter is attempting to teach free jazz to martians.

a.m. - rag red reverie pseudo arcana– cd – 12$

Full on over-the-top psychedelic noise guitar assault from Antony Miltons A.M project. With beats!
Eschewing the last vestiges of embarrassment at several years 'lost' to rave culture in the late 90s A.M channels the furious ecstasies of phasing tones and pounding beats through electric guitar lined red hot into an ancient tape recorder to produce a riff driven avant-party album... With its endless driving riffs and noise incursions ascending to ever higher levels of intensity the sudden free falls into sudden deep ambient bliss are like the first glimpses of dawn on a mountain top on acid..
And then the beats kick in again.
A 'wave your arms in the air' boogie noise record? Who would have thought?

a.m. shiner — bananarchy - stunned records - cass - 7$

Sulfuric post-music debut by the young & troubled Andrew Michael Shiner, whose sonic vernacular on this special edition long playing cassette never strays far from snotty concrete chomping noise. Side A is seven widely varied attempts at funneling assaultive energy thru a black hole in the hopes of its emergence as a pure & beautiful force of healing through the white hole on the other side. Just barely making it there and catching glimpses of the toxic information field being refined in the analog shitstorm is enough to let this single side roll out the length of a full album. Side B matches the first fifty minutes with two more minimally-oriented pieces that include Andrew’s first ever “metahistoric live performance” (were you there? probably!). All is finally capped by a half hour time-freezing monolith wash guaranteed to mellow any harsh incurred by contact with the bananarchic agenda. Also look out for new chapters of the A.M.S. crisis to unfold soon on Housecraft and Sound Holes. Hand numbered edition of 80 pro-dubbed black & white c100 tapes in vinyl album with cover collage compiled from a year’s worth of strung out doodles from A.M. Shiner’s old bummer-job phone log.

amolvacy – ho-ho-kus –black velvet fuckere - lp -14$

"at least pray God to give me patience in my suffering.."

So concludes "Lover Go From Hence", a tale of tumultuous romantic
upheaval on the new Amolvacy record Ho Ho Kus.  Here we have hearts
wrenched from guts and firmly planted in the dirt; but also sprouting new

romance, seduction, and... the Church?

And the French???

Francois Rabelais wrote Garantua and Pantagruel - a major influence on

this album - in the early 16th c. to caricature the faux morality of his time.
Amolvacy offer Ho Ho Kus in
the same cantankerous spirit, but this time
perhaps to parody their own morality.  Love, marriage, sex, affairs, betrayal,

and loneliness are all exposed in naked vulnerability and placed on the
chopping block for emotional dissection.  Lead vocalist Sheila Donovan
(ex-Tall Boys) is a longstanding member of the Laboratory Theater Company

in NYC, and her partners are Aaron Moore of Volcano the Bear and Dave
Nuss of the No-Neck Blues Band.  Together they are the Amolvacy Family.
All things were shared in the making of this record, nothing hidden, no secrets
left untold.

aosuke / black to comm - split - dekorder – lp – 17$

this vinyl-only split-lp release is a meeting of two of the most interesting bands coming out of hamburg, germany at this moment, both continuing the long tradition of both challenging and explorative music coming from this city in the last decades. from krautrock to the origins of the so-called neue deutsche welle from experimental sound artists to some of the finest pop ambient, hamburg is regularly spitting out some of the most singular artists on this planet. both aosuke and black to comm have absorbed influences from all these sources (and a million others) while working towards their very own individual vision.
the two brand new tracks by black to comm are continuing the massive organ/voice drone alchemy of the last double-lp while refining and personalizing his sound, reaching new heights of blazing sonic mysticism.
aosuke have decided to home-record their new material, continuing their loop-oriented, monotone yet highly melodic ambient journeys. working with repetition and small abstractions, all instrumental "loops" are played by hand and recorded live without overdubs (one of the main principles of the guitar/electronics duo), creating surprisingly concrete dormant and somnambulistic soundscapes while fortunately completely lacking the washy and drowsy effects of most ambient music.

apalusa- obadiah -low point– cdr – 12$

Following on from his warmly received cdr releases of 2007, ‘Obadiah’ is the second full length album by Apalusa, aka Nottingham based musician Dan Layton.

Over the course of 50 minutes, these three long-form tracks focus on darker territory than previous releases, with sub-bass rumbles and minor-key chord progressions augmenting the multiple layers of Apalusa’s trademark processed guitar drones and field recordings to form an all-encompassing listening environment.

With Layton’s use of raw sounds and processing techniques now forging an identity for himself which is very much his own, the end result is the most focused and realised Apalusa release to date.

area c - charmed birds against sorcery -students of decay – cd – 11$

"Charmed Birds Against Sorcery" is the third studio album by New
England-based musician Erik Carlson, and constitutes a startling
development in his sound. The first Area C record, 2006's "Traffics
+ Discoveries," was a small marvel of whirring loops sourced primarily
from processed guitars. Last year's "Haunt," Carlson's second record
for Last Visible Dog, was a different affair entirely, investigating the
provocative drone capabilites of farfisa organs. The compositions which
constitute "Charmed Birds..." develop and, often, transcend the motifs
found on these prior albums, with Carlson revealing an astonishingly
refined and singular approach to guitar-based composition.

Soundwise, the album recalls more the crystalline, kaleidoscopic webworks
of the first Area C record than the ragged organ workouts of "Haunt."
Glacial harmonics drift in and out of each channel, skittering, modulated
notes pulse and surge, sputtering suddenly to luminescent manifestation
before disappearing just as quickly. Many of the compositions here are in
fact more remniscient of the ambient side of Wolfgang Voigt's work
in Gas, or perhaps the less beat driven aspects of "94 Diskont"-era Oval
than what we've come to expect from what is ostensibly a 'guitar and
electronics' based project. An almost kraut-like rhythm subtends the
topography of "Composition Journal," the album's stunning opener, its
low throb punctuated by brittle shocks from deconstructed drum
machines over which Carlson weaves a spiralling lattice of bowed and
picked notes. Later, on "Sleeping Birds," we're presented with a lulling
idyll concocted by way of flute-like tones and languid note clusters, a
shorter piece which dissolves seemlessly into modulating static at the
onset of the pointillist microcosm that is "Spell of Resistance." The title
track is without question the album's apex and constitutes a formal peak
in Carlson's discography, as brilliant, bright guitar lines tread effortlessly
in a sea of tranquil pulses and disembodied percussive elements.

It should come as no surprise that, by day, Carlson works in the field of
architecture. For with "Charmed Birds..." he has constructed an edifice
of stunning complexity, originality and beauty.

astral blessing - s/t - mad monk – lp – 14$

This vital release documenting the near-mythological Astral Blessing is, quite plainly, one of the reasons we started Mad Monk. Astral Blessing are / were a Northeastern ‘supergroup’ of sorts featuring renaissance man Paul LeBreque (Sunburned Hand of The Man, Trees Chants & Hollers, Aeth’r Myth’d, The Other Method, Soil Sing Through Me) and Daniel Presnell (Hildegard, Feed and Seed Records) along with drummer Marcus DeMaio. Sporadic gigs, often with fucking years in between them, left more than one trainspotter wondering if the band existed at all. This LP lays the whispers and rumors to rest once and for all. Totally crushing modern psych splatter, referencing the Theater of Eternal Music one minute and Oblivians the next. In total bootleg-style jacket so you can pretend you’re the only one who’s lucky enough to be in on this. Recorded entirely live. Obscenely limited.

astral social club - #17 - self released - cdr - 12$

Taking time out from the works-in-progress schtick, this collection centres around most of an unreleased LP from 2006 (left in limbo due to label never quite getting off the ground) that makes formative excursions into the more phased looping beat aspects of the ASC that have come very much to the forefront in the intervening time. Three of the four more recent tracks that fill this one out take a different tack, and upturn the applecart with beatless overload, bells, multi-speed concussion and the like. The closing track is all handclaps and technoid blats, but reconfigured through a miasma of tone skroink and delay so you'd be hard pressed to get your freak on in any civilised way.

We hit up our fourth vinyl release with this beauty which was originally intended to be a cassette only release (it still will be available on cassette, but only in a tiny run). This Maine based crew features a host of psychedelic jam talent... Nemo of Drona Parva and head honcho of Time-Lag Records, Sparrow Wildchild of The Bummer Road, and the three members of Visitations, whose record on Time-Lag last year was one of 2007's best! So this is the second recording from this crew, the first being last years Sloow Tape. This beast is different to the Sloow vibe, still with a super nice jam band sound, but projecting to a maybe more 'song' (in the loosest possible way) based plane, a little like Visitations. avarus -iv - secret eye - lp- 22$

limited to 200 copies,

All-new exclusive Avarus! Fourth Secret Eye full-length and tenth
release overall from this incredible Finnish band that pretty much
defines modern psychedelic kraut improv. Primitive, primal and tribal,
desolate and mournful, dreamy and pastoral, motorik and hypnotic.
Buzzing, clattery, droning, stumbling Krautrock flecked with
shimmering free-noise, avant ambience, delicate folk fuckery, and
chaotic caveman psychedelic space rock.

Avarus IV starts where the Rasvaaja LP ended. The IV, too, consists of
Tomas Regan's careful high-quality recordings. On the IV Avarus makes
and even longer dive in the warm and clear pond, into which the water
is poured from both kraut and space rock, and from micro music and
slapstick. The recording was made after the US tour, which guarantees
the firm harmony satisfying the most demanding listeners. The delicate
talent and the hilarious team spirit guarantee a recordful of
heart-warming harmonies and surprising turns delighting an
unprejudiced mind. The wondrous adult rock of Avarus is born from an
uncompromising love for music. The finished recording deserved a
fantastic cover, too. This in mind, the graphic visionaries Amanda
Vähämäki and Pauliina Mäkelä spent their summer holidays swimming,
drinking beer, and drawing their kaleidoscopic Davy Crockett epos
inspired by music.

ayal senior - space cakes - bennifer editions - cdr - 12$

Incredible-sounding records that are far too short are extremely frustrating. A prime example is the solo debut from former Herschel Savage and the American Flag member, Ayal Senior. At less than 20 minutes, ?Space Cakes? contains only enough gorgeous guitar/keyboard melodies to merely whet the appetite. If it weren?t for the ?repeat? setting on my CD player, I think I?d lose my mind!!

Senior is a veteran of Toronto?s growing freak scene, playing in the aforementioned HSAF, collaborating with a number of likeminded Torontonian weirdos, and ? oddly enough ? writing the introduction to ?Vampire Vultures,? John Fahey?s posthumous follow-up to ?How Bluegrass Destroyed my Life.? As a solo artist, he combines idiosyncratic synth-pop with rollicking folk guitar to craft a distinctive sound: bedroom psych for extraterrestrial loners. ?Space Cakes? is primarily an instruments-only affair. It isn?t until the closing track, a pure gem of a song, that Senior unveils his soft, mellifluous voice. Perhaps if the album were longer, we?d get to hear more of his gentle crooning. I guess we?ll have to wait for the next one... 9/10

l

the bad statistics - lucky town gone pseudo arcana– cd – 12$

On the follow up to last years debut "Static" LP ((Kr-aa-k)3) The Bad Statistics have set about laying waste to the New Zealand suburban dream with this album, a much darker and heavier affair than their debut. Led by a bald suit clad psychopath named Thebis Mutante (rumoured to be the alter-ego of NZ improv/fire music impressario Jeff Henderson) who chants and howls and grunts throughout their doom laden droning rock mantra the closest comparison I have been able to come up with is some sort of hybrid of The Birthday Party, Circle, and The Reynols.
If the debut LP were to be regarded as the Mission Statement of Bad Statistics Great Annual Report in the Sky, "Lucky Town Gone" is not the Business Highlights chapter to be expected next, but a sideways lurch straight to Appendix 17: Corrupted Data.
Recorded onto degraded old cassette tape, "Lucky Town Gone" is a collection of mean-spirited practice room jams that sees the core four-piece of BAD STATISTICS further embracing the stoner doom drone rock that already defined large parts of "Static".
The seven tracks of "Lucky Town Gone" are again spearheaded by the abrasive, sense-eluding vocal emissions of Thebis Mutante. Critical response to Mutante¹s contributions on "Static" was deeply divided, and the new album is expected to further polarise opinions. Mutante is backed by Mark Williams (Marineville, Idle Suite, Cookie Brooklyn) on guitar, Justin Barr (Raskolnikovs, Users, Wrongdoings, Delaney Ghost Orchestra) on bass, and Johannes Contag (Jay Clarkson, Cloudboy, Sleepytime) on drums and production.

bardo pond - peri – three lobed – lp+2xcd - 21$

LP released 10 april 2009 from a limited edition of 1640 copies. $21.00. \

in early 2008, bardo pond and three lobed recordings teamed up to assemble batholith, a collection of tracks that were close to the band's heart but for various reasons had never been released. the result was an extremely cohesive and vital statement that was positively received by both old and new bardo pond fans. during the compilation of batholith the band had to agonize over the wealth of material that they were sitting on in constructing the ultimate tracklisting - there were too many good songs! the band approached this "problem" by structuring two sister albums, batholith and peri, each possessing their own musical themes and each fully capable of standing independent from the other. For this reason, peri is every bit as potent as its predecessor.

the meticulous sequencing of peri's five tracks provides a classic bardo pond experience. while the initial description of the material might lead one to think that these tracks are "outtakes" or cutting-room floor type material, neither conclusion could be further from the truth. the band is quite excited to finally see all of the material on peri venture into the public. for example, "chicken gun" will be recognizable to the band's longtime fans. a former live staple from 1996 through 1998 (even making an appearance in the band's set at the first terrastock festival), it is a propulsive and fiery rocker every bit as monumental as some of the band's classics such as "lb." and "tommy gun angel." "the path" is a subtle number featuring floating flute work from isobel sollenberger (click here for a downloadable preview). the album-closing "silver pavilion" is the sort of meditative psychedelia that has been bardo pond's calling card over their lengthy career. the track dates to the band's extremely fertile, yet barely documented, period between the release of "dilate" and "on the ellipse." "silver pavilion's" slow, enveloping build properly see the listener to the door and is reminiscent of such flawless bardo closing tracks as "rm," "aldrin" and "night of frogs."

peri is pressed on 180g RTI vinyl and is housed within heavy "old-style" one-pocket stoughton gatefold jackets bearing new collage work from michael gibbons. the record is from a one-time pressing of 1640 copies and, as an added convenience for our vinyl-loving friends,

comes packaged with a glass-mastered CD (not CD-R) of the material present on the wax and
a bonus CD (TLR-068) of previously unreleased bardo pond material.

barn owl / tom carter - split - blackest rainbow – lp -20$

Newest Blackest Rainbow hot on the heels of some truly killer releases from the artists involved, both who seem to have really pushed there sounds and vibes to new levels this year... Barn Owl's side has been mastered by local jammer Ben Nash, and its three tracks of sparse drone layered with bleak guitar epic-ness, tingling chimes and dark mountainous whispers. The guitars here sound delicate and beautiful, but it remains bleak and empty, if you enjoyed their LP on Not Not Fun then this is a real treat. Tom Carter's 16 minute 'Train Kept' follows pretty damn nicely from his recent 'Shots At Infinity' releases on Important, a far cry from his more psychedelic folk experimentations, here he slashes and riffs like many a legend, and maybe, just maybe, it's a slight tribute to a certain band too? This is a fully wild piece of work. Black sleeves, pasted stark landscape cover, with a insert of liner notes. Limited to 380 copies.

mariska baars, robert deters, rutger zuydervelt  - gris gris - low point– cdr – 8$

‘Gris Gris’ is a collaborative release between Dutch musicians Mariska Baars (who also writes and performs as soccer Committee) Robert Deters (of Vance Orchestra) and Rutger Zuydervelt (also known as the highly prolific Machinefabriek).

The material for ‘Gris Gris’ (named after Robert’s cat and also the term for a Voodoo amulet that protects the wearer from evil or brings luck) was recorded during a single day in late August 2008.  The session consisted of using Mariska’s voice as source material with Robert and Rutger adding further processing, field recordings and electronics.
Whereas previous collaborations between Machinefabriek and soccer Committee used processing principally to supplement the minimal framework of Mariska’s songs, here her voice is used to generate a whole spectrum of different pitches and timbres.  At times the source material is almost unrecognisable, transformed and buried under layers of manipulation, whilst at other moments slithers of untreated tones appear as if they’re part of some vaporous radio broadcast.
The end result is some of the three artists most minimal, slow and eerie music to date.
Cd packaged in a matt two-tone folding card wallet featuring illustrations by Mariska Baars. Ltd edition of 500 copies.

Manchester has some crazy scene going on, so many bands/artists keep coming out of there its insane... so here's a nearly 20 minute document from one of these bands, Beach Fuzz. This trio features members of Stuckometer, Axis Mundi, EYEHAI, and Manccc's Golden Lab Records head honcho himself, Nick Mitchell. Wild shit goes on here, kinda space drone rock or something. Double sided artwork, for a one sided tape... first time we jammed that, looks real sweet though. Limited to 64 copies.

bear bones, lay low - djids hum - gipsy sphinx - lp - 20$

Devastating psych noise power drones by Ernesto González, an 18 year old kid from Venezuela who moved to Belgium with his family 3 years ago. Thick layers of Hototogisu-like guitar drones interfere with endless tape loops and warm washes of analogue jungle color tone to work up to an overwhelming fuzz guitar climax, leaving listeners helpless, ecstatic, puzzled and bemused. Ernesto has been making music for over three years now, has various solo as well as collaboration projects going on, has released a slew of amazing selfmade cdr's and has recently also become a full time member of Belgium's finest: freefolk/krautrock outfit Silvester Anfang, who've got an LP coming out on Eclipse later this month. A promising new star in the psych drone skies…

bee mask - hyperborean trenchtown - weird forest - lp -16$

I think Chris Madak was born after impact in a car crash, and his "Hyperborean Trenchtown" will enter the world in a similar fashion. The album resonates a future sound vision that can only come from an old soul destined to further pave the paths laid by electronic and minimalist pioneers. Thorough audio examinations covering every facet of sound/tone property as a whole will reveal astonishing new layers listen after listen. Undeniably pure processes of creating and sustaining sound visually, sonically and otherwise brings a mathematical and scientific accuracy that hasnt been seen since the days of lovely music ltd. or GRM. The album's two side long cuts are divided into two displays of versatility with varied sound sources including amplified acoustic instruments, hand made electronics, phonography, and more. Brilliant textures and audio hallucinogenic time/space wormholes create infinite listening possibilities for this album. Few albums can create such a disorienting tunnel that is sounds as if the record has multiple albums locked within itself - you can hear these sounds and interpret them in so many ways that only time can unlock its many possibilities. Great albums only gain significance and this is surely no exception. Listen to this record on your turntable and stop time completely or melt into the past or the future with it - your choice. -John Elliott

bee mask/astronaut - the world is transformed and all the heavens sing for joy!/will they remember f-zero? - deception island - cass - 5$

"A fat streak of grease on the wall while the room turns itself inside out. Post-kundalini awakening pissing words in the proverbial horse ear. Fucked Lee Perry-style deep tape scum/shimmer-oriented reworking of live sessions from WCSB. On the reverse, the late Massachusetts synth trio Astronaut, featuring Daniel "Oneohtrix Point Never" Lopatin, reach dizzying extremes of paranoia and lfo-heavy entheogenic ritual dread/churn in shadowy "final" sessions, coming on in a more blown out and breathless fashion than on any side to date. Full black light trails/campfire mode, complete with appropriately face-melting peaks. All BASF chrome tapes in polyboxes, featuring cardstock inserts and full-color labels. bee mask - honey and salt - deception island - cass -5$

More homebrew synth damage from Bee Mask, this time featuring legendary Cleveland-area free drummer Nate Scheible. Side A's culled from profoundly fried spring sessions at Scheible's Zombie Proof studios, in which both parties exhale a massive, sustained sound like the interior of a giant bell and proceed to stagger about, running into walls and vomiting corrosive fluid and at least one pause-button suckerpunch. Side B returns to solo territory with a crucial collage of crusty/cranky improv blasts recorded live on WCSB. Lumbering, bleary, and pissed.

bee mask - no mutant enemy - pizza night - cass - 7$

If you keep your ears to the ground, you most likely have already gripped his latest LP on Weird Forest, "Hyperbolean Trenchtown". If not, then consider yourself the last to know about Bee Mask. He's been a staple in the midwest/east coast for years now. With a wide array of set-ups and an endless amount of sonic possibilities, it's hard to tell what's next with him. The two sides flow together like one dense piece using heavy mind warping drones and hazey bells that chime in to relieve some of the tension. The tape offers an alternate universe that is neither dark nor light, ugly or beautiful. Neither sounds of love or of hate.

being & body collector - guile in white heat -skeleton dust – cd – 7$

Gripped this one in a trade with Being at the 517 noisfest 4, the day it was released.
I find myself wondering sometimes if I enjoy harsh noise or not. Alot of times it chan just depend onf how it is presented. Well, this is some really harsh stuff, and I love it.
First of all, the concept to this one is simple, yet awesome. Each artist has a solo track. The artists remix the other artist's track. Then they collaborate on one track at the end. This makes for some great pieces. The packing is simple and straight to the point. Recording info, track names, you know, the essentials. Also has one of those pure black back cases, I rarely see those anymore. The disc is really cool, it is red, and has a very nice texture to it, I wonder what type of paints were used. I really dig the front cover. The only problem I have with the artwork is that it might be TOO minimal. The inside of the cover is totally blank, I think that space could've been utilized to include some more graphics similar to the front cover graphics and really bring the art alive. But other than that, I really enjoy the way this is presented, and the red theme is really cool.
Before hearing this album, i'd never heard or even heard of either artist, so I had no clue what to expect. I like that when listening to an album, no prior knowledge to base an opinion off of, just what I feel when listening. When I put it in, I was genuinly interested in the textures and sounds I was hearing. The original tracks were great, Being's had some of the best work on the album, and Body Collector's included some very great scremaing (hard to identify, but it does sound ike it) and high pitched noises that really lent themselves to the track. I didn't enjoy the remixes as much. Being's remix of Body Collector's "Rotting & Unkept" was alright, but Body Collector's remix of Being "Cold Hands Gripping" seemed to tone down the great song. The collaboration track is a great one, some really great frequencies and textures throughout.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one, I look forward to hearing more from both artists.

binges – return to whatever – arbor - cdr – 6$

Binges are a hometown favorite here in Chicago.  Up until this point their music has existed to the public in one form: the live set.  For the benefit of those outside of Chicago, the duo, comprised of drummer Chris Robert and guitar/bass/drum/mic/tape dude Anthony Decanini, recently teamed up with Midwestern Raccoo-oo-oon to cover the west coast with their syncopated improvisations.  It is only fitting that their first release be made up of live material(recorded to DAT tape and mastered with the utmost care).  Decanini creates a vast number of growing and receding loops from his guitar, bass, contact mic, tapes, and other sources which act as the perfect foil to Robert’s percussion(a serious thing to behold).  It isn’t so much one person acting as the leader as much as the two creating an absolute sonic union of sounds blurring the line between free jazz and noise.  In an edition of 200 screened CDRs in screened sleeves.

birchville cat motel - summers seething pulse - elsie and jack – cd – 10$

new version with a little different packaging but otherwise the same

"I can hear things.

"Late at night, if not sufficiently drained from the day, I hear things. Walking to work I hear them too. Increasingly I find that in the fragments of existence that aren't filled to capacity resides a sound, a noise, or perhaps a sensation, and if you can tune out the myriad of competing frequencies, you'll hear it too.

"To describe this sound is a fearsome task indeed. It can rattle like a dish-rack before an approaching earthquake, it buzzes similar to your annoying refridgerator, and sometimes it's the frail squeals of amplifier-damaged ears. But inevitably, its lithe form shifts and avoids apprehension leaving me with a heart-bursting sense of having not quite grasped something of great interest."

bird by snow - songbread & another ocean - gnome life records – lp & cd & more - 15$

A new calf sparkles in the field at dawn with after-birth upon her. Standing strong and brave with wobbly legs in a precarious world. With totally fearless surrender she steps forward, still wet from the inner universe of the before birth being. With the same naked abandon we offer this 3rd long-player by Bird By Snow. Ten free-pop-mantras, ancient-babies of modern song.

The most fertile Bird By Snow record (so far) each side of this album has its own name, in order to give the tunes more mind-space to flourish and expand… Side A is “Songbread” and side B is “Another Ocean.” In this record-world we find BBS harvesting perspectives in an old-growth forest of ontology & swimming joyfully in wide-wonder-waters of multi-instrumentalism. Cellos, drones, pianos, field-recordings, tape-collage & all manner of drumming, strumming & singing confer and conspire here. Many of these songs have been two years in the making, grown and regrown on musical tours through the generous world. Songs with fresh-washed faces, and crow’s feet in the corners of their eyes.

“Songbread/Another Ocean” is also some of Gnome Life’s most beautiful and ambitious packaging! The cover is a color lithograph poster, and the LP also includes a deluxe handmade booklet of literature, lyrics, ideas, and points of entry. AND a second semi-transparant poster of poetry called: "SLOW POEMS" by Fletcher Tucker (a.k.a. Bird By Snow). This edition is limited to 550 copies, and is on completely clear vinyl, and comes with a CD!

180 gram vinyl, packaged in deluxe silkscreened art paper. "By trade Sir Richard Bishop is a dealer of rare occult books and fine paper ephemera. For many in the musical cosmos, he has occasion to travel the smoke filled carnie circuit as 1/3 of the Sun City Girls medicine show. But in the twilight hours of a shadow world once sensed only by few, Bishop is a dazzling unaccompanied guitarist. On Improvika, Bishop rides a very tall horse through a surrealist's cowboy set that's 1 part bruit Peckinpah muscularity & 2 parts illuminated Jodorowskian symbolism.. A very strange place, indeed. Armed only with a single steel string wooden guitar, bare-knuckled Bishop fends off the horrors & dangers of the night with ease as he spits out glorious white robed Arabesques, Django-inspired gypsy arcs, & Latin terracotta flourishes like so many spinning tumbleweeds in a one horse town that is his alone. Improvika is Sir Richard's solo installment for locust's long running Wooden Guitar series."

s

harbinger (dave bixby) - second coming - guerssen records - lp - 23$ out of stock - more soon

Unknown to most '60s/'70s collectors until its discovery a few years ago, this is the beyond rare second album released by loner/downer folk legend Dave Bixby, recorded around 1969, the same year as his first one, the now-famous Ode To Quetzalcoatl. Musically, Second Coming is equally as good and very similar to the first one, but this time the recording took place in a professional studio, so the sound is improved. Bixby is joined by Brian MacInness on guitar, Sandy Johnson on vocals and Don DeGraaf on bass and production duties. Don was in fact leader of the, in the end, destructive religious cult known as "The Group" or "The Movement," of which Bixby and Brian were part of. The sound is more up-front and the songs are slightly optimistic compared to the ones on Ode To Quetzalcoatl, and there's plenty of acoustic 12-string raga guitars and harmony male/female vocals. The lyrics deal with cosmic imagery, psychedelics and religious/biblical references, but this goes much deeper than any Xian record you've ever heard -- titles such as "Cosmic Energy," "Time To Clear Your Mind," "Rainbow," and "Circus World" point towards some sort of New Age/post-Revelations utopian consciousness. Reissued for the first time under license from Dave Bixby himself, and carefully remastered from a clean vinyl (no master tapes exist) at Shadoks Music Studios. Includes an insert with extensive and detailed liner notes by Matvei Procak -- the guy who found Bixby in 2006 -- plus some rare pictures. Also includes a free mp3 download code.

black eagle child // oh be joyful - split- tired trails - cass - 6$

no one knows why black eagle child sprung
out of his little midwestern nest, but we're all
sure as hell happy he did. cause he came out
spitting out one prolific sound scape after another.

his brilliant side of the tape features guitar,
accordion, road noise and rainstorms. all 3 tracks
are strung together with bliss wire, static and deep
low voice choir drones. a delicate riff arises, repeats.
mimicking itself and branching off into skeletal
sculptures. the sounds sink into the wind wallowing
restlessly, as city buses from the street creep in and
swallow. this is a meditative piece. sitting on the side
of a mountain with kind buds and no-mind. examine.

B side features oh be joyful, who begins an improvised
guitar piece with the sound of the wind sailing over sea
glass, an embrace of the earth and its movement.
recorded in a tent, this first piece reflects the intimacy of
living in that small space. with "ghost ride side car," this
side continues down a bleak path with what sounds like
the rumble of a motorcycle making its way through
a deserted town at night. goosebumps and sightings.
the last track, 'thunder hills chorus,' ends the cycle with
some deep deep bass and a chorus loop resounding,
raw gurgly murk getting spit out of the polluted earth.
beware. hand numbered blue tapes,
housed in blue & green tie-dyed recycled handmade paper-
hand-sewed together. beautiful hand drawn art (drawn by bec,

black to comm/aosuke - split - dekorder – lp – 17$

this vinyl-only split-lp release is a meeting of two of the most interesting bands coming out of hamburg, germany at this moment, both continuing the long tradition of both challenging and explorative music coming from this city in the last decades. from krautrock to the origins of the so-called neue deutsche welle from experimental sound artists to some of the finest pop ambient, hamburg is regularly spitting out some of the most singular artists on this planet. both aosuke and black to comm have absorbed influences from all these sources (and a million others) while working towards their very own individual vision.
the two brand new tracks by black to comm are continuing the massive organ/voice drone alchemy of the last double-lp while refining and personalizing his sound, reaching new heights of blazing sonic mysticism.
aosuke have decided to home-record their new material, continuing their loop-oriented, monotone yet highly melodic ambient journeys. working with repetition and small abstractions, all instrumental "loops" are played by hand and recorded live without overdubs (one of the main principles of the guitar/electronics duo), creating surprisingly concrete dormant and somnambulistic soundscapes while fortunately completely lacking the washy and drowsy effects of most ambient music.

black to comm / datashock - collaboration ikuisuus – cdr - 7$

"Incredible, spooky-spiritual-drone masterpiece by the most hip German
experimentalists Black to Comm (Mark Richter) and the free-noise group
Datashock companied by new member Marcel Türkowsky. Here all together
creating a flavor of blissen alien soundscapes, whirling on, changing
and evolving all the time, generating hyperzonic tensions inside the
crown-chakra so long that the eyes start to see pulsating flames
inside and outside your imagination. Rich in Colour of sound and for
sure not a restless headfuck, but a stony stoned psychedelic vibration
of something spiritually exciting, something which reminds the outer
inner worlds, and how close they are. The fog of the lake & the ghosts
of the forgotten old new days. Recorded nearby Berlin's Goldmund
festival in August 2007, in a place which used to be a summercamp for
kids in the times of GDR the point which alone may cause the climbing
in such a mystical level. Peaceful & strange at the same time.

black forest / black sea – s/t – music fellowship – cd -  12$

BLACK FOREST/BLACK SEA is the Providence duo of Jeffrey Alexander (mostly guitar) and Miriam Goldberg (mostly cello). They play free-form music that draws from folk traditions. The have toured extensively in the US and Europe, from Savonlinna to Sicily, Riga to Reykjavik and Portland to Portland. This is the fourth BF/BS full-length - recorded in Providence, RI, Portland, ME and Montague, MA with guest performances by Italian sound sculptor Stefano Pilia (guitar, tiny sounds) and Miriam's sister Margot Goldberg (phonorgan). Yet another sister - Gillian Goldberg - provides lyrics. Miriam and Jeffrey also incorporate voice, ur-pedal, casio, bul bul tarang and omnichord. "...a half-improvised framework of guitar, cello and sundry accented glitches...a magnificent patchwork tent of bark, calico fabric, twisted vines, and fallen stars...a gorgeous snapshot of the free psych underground, one of the purest spaces of otherworldly terrain in the current musical landscape." - ptchfork

black magic disco - s/t - a silent place - 2xlp - 21$

(mciaa and jackie-o motherfucker)

Black Magic Disco is the new all-star band featuring Tom Greenwood (Jackie-O Motherfucker), Maurizio & Roberto Opalio (My Cat Is An Alien) and Ramona Ponzini (Painting Petals On Planet Ghost, Praxinoscope). The project was born out of an idea from Tom Greenwood, founder leader of the avant-folk-blues ensemble Jackie-O Motherfucker, who invited Maurizio and Roberto Opalio, aka the Italian improv duo My Cat Is An Alien (MCIAA), and their close collaborator Ramona Ponzini (also involved with the two brothers in the projects named Painting Petals On Planet Ghost and Praxinoscope, as well as in the new collaboration with Z'ev) to perform with him for two months of touring throughout all Europe in May/ June 2005. As one can imagine, the result was killer. The music which came out of the live performances was totally explosive, combining Ramona's Japanese vocals & hypnotic chimes with Greenwood's psych-blues guitar attitude & wild turntablism, over MCIAA's alien cosmic flux of electric guitars, space toys & percussions, creating a still unheard mixture of sounds unifying archaic & post-modern, western & eastern, sky & earth. This debut CD represents a unique chance to experience almost 80 minutes of that pure and magic live action, divided in four long tracks taken from the original live recordings. BLACK MAGIC DISCO's logo comes from the pencil of Roberto Opalio; the gatefold jacket CD artwork, curated by MCIAA contains some band photos taken during the live performances included in the record.

blakeelliswesterby - self released - cdr - 7$

Recorded in 2005/6 at home in and around Goodrich, Michigan. My first solo attempt after trying a few other musical experiments that either morphed or ended. Radio waves, heartbeats, clocks, breathing, free wilderness, and an array of instruments, people, and tape samples. Basically I was in a room recording for some odd months occasionally getting help from friends, mostly improvising each time. Thank you to all that helped, namely, Kelsey Rhea for everything I need, Jesse Kaczmarczyk for improv-ing V, Mike K. for screaming a lot on Can't Escape It (Dying), and to everyone who has especially supported this: Jocelyn (and anyone associated with A&B records), Jeffry Astin (xiphiidae, housecraft recordings), Kevin McEleney (Droughter, Heavy Psych), Johnathan Petit, Robert Bidder (Tea & Toast Band), Sean "Mucky" of KDVS 90.

blank dogs - the fields – fuck it tapes – 12" – 15$

7 song 12" Mini-LP.

"BlankDogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man
Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the
biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's
usually covering his face with masks or bedspreads, but that's fine.
The aura of anonymity allows you to focus on the sounds -- and,
really, he might be releasing a ton of things, but there's definitely
a higher jam to crap ratio. It's like Joy Division vocal lines with
the Cure's synth and guitar melodies filtered through ancient
submerged keyboards and eroded recording equipment. And that voice?
All the feedback in the world can't hide his knack for melody." -stereogum

s

blank dogs - on two sides - troubleman unlimited - lp - 14$

blank dog's proposition does also contain a great deal of the otherworldly, I think you shall find the way in which they resonate uncertain and hazy like transmissions coming from the other side most appealing, like reliable messengers delivering a lost love letter across impossible distances with a fierce passion which reminds me of that most excellent Sir John Maus. Blank Dogs seem to have studied in the cadaverous school of German minimalism where thaumaturgs such as Grauzone excelled, but covered some of the piercing angles with the flesh and blood of the new wave that these Islands did bear, particularly Joy Division and even Young Marble Giants at certain moments of trembling melodic beauty. All laced with that distorted barbed wire one finds in so many promising new acts from the other side of the pond. Formidable material, I am sure you will agree, do purchase their album On Two Sides when it is made available and you shan't be disappointed.

blank dogs - diana(the herald) - sacred bones - lp - 14$

“For the quickly ascending ‘career’ of the BLANK DOGS, this 12-inch marks another ringer, and already their fourth release of 2007, clearly showing an impeccable work ethic with no signs of stopping. Each record sounding more unique and far out than the last, this brand new 12-inch EP on Sacred Bones shows the Blank Dogs evolving into a full-on goth-gone wrong killing machine, yet they don't need to get nasty. The effects the vocals reverberate through will cause instant nausea when exposed to the elderly and the weak, yet underneath lie those keenly disguised pop hooks that stick with you long after the record stops. If 'Death Pop' was ever really a term, the Blank Dogs now own it, yet their wrong wave wanderings can entertain fringe psych-heads just the same, hence their growing appeal across genre boundaries.”

blank realm - mind peril - nnf - cass - 6$

So many steaming heaps of uniquely fried brains litter the “down under” underground landscape (Australia, NZ) you begin to worry for their greater wellbeing, health, sanity. But, at the same time, it’s hard to complain ‘cause those same forces have done wonders for the world’s weirdo CDR collections. Paeces, Lakes, all the Bros ‘o’ The Occult Sisterhood shit, Castings, Terracid, xNoBBQx (most of those Breakdance The Dawn bands, actually), Naked On The Vague, etc. – there’s a damn ARMY of Australasian gangs throwing up freaky signs and bizarre strains of audio consciousness, and we are all the richer for it. But our favorite such clan for the past year plus is Blank Realm, outta Brisbane. They’ve been emitting a steady smokestack of work-in-progress documents showcasing their pan-genre collective symbiosis the last couple years and each new cloud they puff out is a headier, heavier beast than the one before it – and Mind Peril shows they’ve yet to even fucking plateau. Self-released by the band early in ’08 in a micro-edition of a few dozen, we were fairly floored by it, and offered to spread the gospel a bit more. Listen up. Crouched hermetic energies arc upwards into unified spirals of electric heavens, animal clatter, basement trance, and zoner drums. 8-limbed songs grapple up from 4-track floors. Rituals retch into wrecked rock songs. Vertical motion for formless heights. This is Blank Realm at their blankest and best. NNF edition has a new track sequence, and is pro-dubbed on high-quality chrome cassettes, as befits this sprawling C54 classic. In oversized, hand-stamped, spray-painted cardstock sleeves with hand-ripped rainbow-tissue collage artwork. Edition of 100.

blank realm - street bananas - digitalis recordings - cass - 7$

blank realm has evolved over the past few years from some of the best droners in the land of oz to doing something far more disjointed, original, catch, and honestly, fucking genius.  they exist in the same zone as their breakdance the dawn brethren, but have easily etched their own fractals in the sand.  everything is played and sung like it's being drawn out of a thick haze.  you can never quite see it, but bits and pieces slowly reveal themselves so you can connect the sparkling dots.

"street bananas" finds its groove right away, and at times will have you wanting to shake your ass out on that stretch of empty highway that leads straight to the fucken moon.  hell, blank realm even through a few pop missives out of nowhere that you'll hum until the day you implode.  i think i'm ready to move down under where everything... everything is baked and/or fried.  limited to 77 copies that give homage to 1983.

Evacuated Materials is the follow-up to Love in Vein - BLOOD!’s debut on Jerkwave Tapes from 2008. Nine tracks of heavy synth breathing, bursting drones and electronic pulses rubbing and burning against your skin. Recorded live at Resonance FM. Full on duo in kick back mode, trying to burrow out of the airwaves into the listeners spine via tapes, voice, violin, oscillators, percussion and various other junk. A very pleasant magnetic headache. "Constantly engaging, and almost OCD in its search for new sounds, it runs a pretty slick roller coaster from meditative drone to looped rhythm to random samples to vocal exhumations, all inextricably connected and mystically-timed, as if these two have some secret key to the sweet spot at which to stop hammering a sound and transform it into something new." - Noiseweek

Cathedral of Junk - Austin, Texas March 16, 2008 CS

"The Cathedral of Junk was started in 1988 in Austin Texas as a
backyard art project and has continually grown ever since. Brett
Humphrey of the band X=X set up this show and when one of the bands
backed out at the last moment I asked the band Lead Sister II (Joshua
Hume) to play even though I had never met him. I saw that Lead Sister
II was on the Ikuisuus label, liked his music, and figured since we
both lived in Austin we should play a show together!! It turned out
that it was his last day in Austin before moving to Japan. He was a
very thoughtful polite young guy who played very intriguing music so
now we have this cassette release on Ikuisuus of two great Austin
Texas bands meeting each other and playing together for the first
time!!! Enjoy."

boris morgana – rotti frutti – ikuisuus – cdr -  10$

I gave a kiss to a giant leech. It sucked me in. With a little effort, I wriggled to its opposite end and out into a different world, but I can't say how it differed from the one before. Likewise, all the atoms and other bits of matter that pass through us - that we swallow and transform - bear more or less fresh fruit, as they are reborn through us. Boris Morgana's Rotti Frutti is not just an oral delight, it's aimed at the whole organism. It percolates, hisses, comes and goes: gently as well. Furtively it infiltrates the brain through the ears and causes reactions. And maybe these inner oscillations move on to the hands, feet and other organs: maybe they carry the germ of a wholly new fruit. When it comes about, it's too late: everything has changed and one can't but accept it - allow the rotten fruit to issue forth.

bright duplex - strawberry trust - thor's rubber hammer - cdr - 6$

Vanessa Rossetto first knocked us out with a trio of CDrs on her own Music Appreciation label. Her violin/viola improvisations and compositions saw through drones in the way Tony Conrad conjures multiple waves of sound just from one instrument. And when accompanied by electronics, Rossetto uses feedback as a terrifying weapon. Her duo with fellow Austinite Matthew Armistead (drums, percussion, clarinet) is an exercise in taut communication. Bright Duplex delights in little percussion clatters, hiccuping gongs, snares rubbed raw, wild reed melodies and strings bowed hard against the wood. When the duo reaches a climactic paramount, the drones thunder from temples like Taj Mahal Travellers. "Suppress (Detached) Orchestra" is the vinyl debut for Australia's
Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood. BOTOS is centered around
Michael Donnelly and a revolving cast of free thinkers who exist
collectively as musicyourmindwillloveyou and have released a myriad
of post-psychedelic free drone action on a wide variety of formats,
culminating with "Goodbye," released in 2006 by Digitalis.

The LP consists of two side-long freakouts, the first recorded in
2006 by the latest incarnation of the group, and the second by the
original duo lineup of Michael and his sister Kristina, recorded in 2004.
Because of this difference, both temporal and in personnel, each side
is immediately distinct in sound. Lurching, shamanistic percussion,
sonorous cello, snarling, blistering psych guitar, shambling piano,
and a wealth of other heaving, joyous sounds congeal and morph
in this fascinating journey through the minds of Australia's most
wrecked sons and daughters.

buck paco - ive wasted my breath - abandon ship records – 3" cdr - 5$

"Over the last ten or so years, Buckland Oswald Paco and company have amassed a collection of recorded material in excess of 100 songs (for lack of a better word).
About 95 percent of which have never been released. Falling short of wasting no part of the animal, the band have done their best to whittle down their portfolio small enough to fit the three-inch format.

Clocking in at somewhere in the 20+ minute range, "I've Wasted my Breath" is a rather abridged, but cherry-picked survey of The Buck Paco Band's catalogue.

All the slag has been neatly scraped away, leaving five solid gems on which to ruminate just long enough to realize the disc is already over and you need to start it up again."

bulbs - light ships - freedom to spend - cd - 12$

Anyone familiar with the CDR label, JYRK, that I ran from 2001-2006, would know that I have long been a fan of William Sabiston’s music.  As a member of Axolotl, as a filmmaker, or on his own, as ball lightning, he’s delivered the goods.
William formed Bulbs with Jon Almaraz in 2005, shortly after his leaving Axolotl and shortly following Jon’s move from Bakersfield to San Fran.  Jon was a younger, ambitious guitarist just hitting the big city. Apparently the pairing was destiny, William’s beating-around-the-bush electronic drum styles mesh perfectly with Jon’s ultra-processed minute guitar jabs.
Bulbs hovered around the SF underground for a few years, only occasionally releasing hints at what they were capable of.  I received a cassette, “Anela Of Tailoo Too,” which left me feeling like I had been punched in the gut.  The music was light years away from anything else in the underground scenes they were occupying.
Light Ships finds bulbs at their most psychedelic and pointillistic.   They occupy an odd space between the gloss of Kompakt records minimalism, the glue huff ambiguity of a band like Mouthus, and the stuttering clicks and confusion of a Han Bennik/Derek Bailey duo.  There’s a lot of movement from more acoustic to more electronic sounds, from more straight rhythmic patterns to totally elliptical percussive gurgling, from understanding what’s going on to not having any sort of idea who is doing what to whom.  Despite all these shifts and potential contradictions, the music manages to be entirely cohesive and the record is surprisingly easy on the ears.  Everything here has its place.

bulls blood - mondyeth- foxglove -cdr -7$

transplanted from omaha to korea via minneapolis, bull's blood's quiet compositions come from the mind of charles lareau (who also records as das torpedos). stuck in a canvas bag and beaten to smithereens, bull's blood reconstructs these soggy pieces into a ramshackle house of cards. a sense of urgency plagues each of these 11 songs. armed with varying tape loops, acoustic guitars, shambolic percussion, vocals, and god knows what else, "mondyeth" is drenched in the earth's turf. it's as though lareau's spirit is singing like a masked heathen from the grave. 100 copies (foxglove/digitalis)
