fabio orsi - 2 or 3 moments in 1 day - students of decay – 3" cdr – 6$
With recent releases on Digitalis and A Silent Place, and a Last
Visible Dog album impending, Fabio Orsi has quickly made quite
a name for himself - with good reason. "2 or 3 Moments in 1 Day"
is, appropriately, a three part arrangement, each successive
movement more shimmering and beautiful than the last. In Fabio's
own words, "The base idea was to create three parallel worlds. Like
the thoughts in the mind, some intelligible moments and some
lysergic moments." Wonderful stuff, truly.

john w fail - icewhistle - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$
John W. Fail has turned up in a lot of places but on few recordings; this is the first release entirely under his own name, following an 8-project cassette compilation on Dronedisco last year. Most well-known as 1/2 of Lied Music, The Icewhistle finds Fail quietly scraping ghost overtones from his israj (the traditional Bengali instrument heard on Lied Music recordings). In eight minimal tracks, the sounds of air and urban ambiance mix with the israj to create a haunting, suspended soliloquy.

Slitherin. Its both a bellied grind deep down into the dirt with each turn and a graceful floating just above it all at the same time. family underground - black hole - weird forest - 2xlp - 18$
Family Underground drenched the east coast of the USA in molten syrup last year and they toted along a tour CD-R entitled Black Hole released by the fine folk of Secret Eye. Mega bummed I didn't get to feel their magic live but I ordered that tour disc post-haste. Man, when I got it I was slain. I thought it was their finest work to date so I had to invoke it on vinyl. I tapped into the band's communication network and together we figured this would make a killer double LP, definitely one for the record books. So The Underground sent me a half hour of unreleased musics to fill the vinyl sides to fruition. Holy Hannah was I unprepared for A! How well the new jams mind-melded with the other tracks. And B — the superb variation of the entire work with paramount peaks and deep arcane valleys. Get it and trip!

family underground - riven - nnf – lp – 10$
Denmark's deepest dope-dreamers dig up another pair of prism-splitting slabs of decaying radioactivity. Riven is the FU crew at their most crouched and concentrated, couched in fever, fog, futurism, and fucked densities, channels of brain-wave light fusion overloading with synergistic zero hour tectonics. Uncanny ex-men (and woman) aktivity. More metallic than Axial and far hungrier than Future Bread, Riven resonates like a dead bell in a buried valley, ringing, subterranean, wasted, industrial. Man-made clangs echo in mechanized caverns. Hologram hands sweat black light in the center of the earth. Implosion fantasies bloom. Black LPs (mastered by Pete Swanson of Yellow Swans for supreme sonic symmetry) in fractal cave art jackets by Svend Balslev plus a band-made insert. First 75 direct mail orderers also receive a limited FU pin. Limited to 450.

family underground - helium rug - dnt records - one sided lp - 10$
Denmark's drone demons release another one. A helium rug would float, which is exactly what your melted mind will do while listening to this record. Whistling blown by the birds of hell. This has been in the works for quite some time. Originally intended to come out last summer on their US tour, but we didn't want to flood the market (they already had 3 LPs coming out the same time). Edition of 299 on black vinyl with bi-color stencil on b-side. The front cover is what you will look like after listening to this. Your mind will split open unleashing the helium rug from within. Screenprinted covers. Artwork by Zachary Fleming.

Christian Family Underground - for the depth of your union… - woodsist / sound@one - lp -14$
Summer 06 Family Underground (DK) recorded with Dave Nuss of NNCK at
Black Dirt Studios in the woods of upstate NY. The yield was as
characteristically unhinged as one might expect: sweeping electronic
sounds backed with wood and bone percussion spirit-conjure. However
also harvested was some new and especially tasty crop: sung and spoken
song, electric guitar/conga “rock,” and an odd ghostly sheen coating
the entire proceeding. Nuss comments on the session: “I remember when
we were recording, momentarily leaving the studio and going out into
the night and feeling it thicken like a partition separating us from
this intense state of clear consciousness we had in the recording,
which was like… humankind’s natural state. And then thinking about
Jesper from FU, an adopted Vietnamese living in DK, and how much he
resembles Michael Jackson, and realizing that across continents no man
can be divided from himself. We had to make this music to provide for
us some fantasy of fulfillment that would carry us through the weekend
like rejuvenated suns born again climbing to heaven, after being washed
in the deepest bluest sea….” Jacket by designer Susan Cianciolo and
screened inserts by Stellar, NL.

fantastic ego - trips the light - phantom limb recordings - cdr - 7$
From Ged Gengras (Antique Brothers) comes this accomplished take on
the new wave pop song ("Down in the Park") and some inspired no wave guitar
and sonica instrumentals. For fans of Current 93 and any Beta-Lactam Ring
releases
-phantom limb

fantastic ego – the river is down – phantom limb recordings - 3" cdr - 5$
His second release for Phantom Limb, Ged Gengras' Fantastic Ego worked with our inventory of available blank cd-rs
and thankfully gave us a treasure chest of amazing material, shrunk into a thimble of digital data. What this little
monster lacks in diameter, it makes up for in sheer psych experimentalism and a potent addition of haunting nostalgia.
Expect the things you liked about Fantastic Ego (either solo or with Antique Brothers or Fantastic Sleep), but add to
that some things you never knew you missed before (like exotic strings and tribal drums).
-phantom limb

fantastic sleep – new master – phantom limb recordings - cassette - 4$
Recorded on the two most harrowing days of the year (Halloween and Tax Day), this cassette
documents the on-going assault on boring drone music. Created by Ged Gengras (Fantastic
Ego, Antique Brothers, and Thousands) and Grant Capes (Sleepwalkers Local 242, (VxPxC),
and Thousands), this sounds like none of that... OR this sounds like all of that mixed together
and shot through broken subwoofers, chewed on by an electric dog and then shat out onto
a landmine!

fat legs / thousand year frog - cloud valley recordings - cass - 5$
Fat Legs is Dan and Tiff. On side A they come in slow and creepy with full on texturize alien feedback tones and electronic animal squalor sounds, the side builds and builds with beautifull layers of multitextural electronics...and, by the end--stunned and immobile, weird weird ass descending crescendios of minimalism...smoked
1000 year frog is on side B. Steve Smith is one real ZONER jammer...he takes the time and has the patience to always offer you some new goods, in a diverse texturized manner....no exception here....the frog side enters and sustains with weird-weird shit---minimal drone angels shrieking in the backdrop, refined and subdued feedback moans and what sounds like reptilian slithering and shifting movements with weird clock-like rythms...and then, SMASH the bang for your buck has arrived, all the levels go up, and you're lost in a rabbit-hole ever descending

james fella/nomen dubium - split - dnt records - 3" cdr - 4$
James Fella is a busy guy. He plays in Tent City & Soft Shoulder, plus he runs the label Gilgongo Records. Some of his past solo outputs have been beautiful soft intricate works, others have been loud blissful guitar pedal'd pieces. Total brain-fried intensity for this one. The 3" finishes with Nomen Dubium from Berkeley, CA. Nomen Dubium create incredibly beautiful (some will say new-age, but c'mon!) guitar pieces, run through a zillion and one pedals. Think My Bloody Valentine or something.

james fella / bri white - when night comes - c-salt - cass - 5$
4 new guitar songs from Bri, one long noise / guitar layer piece from
James (me), all recorded when I was visiting Bri in Portland a few
weeks ago. On the way home from eating at Paradox, we found a ripped
apart hand-made art zine in SE PDX by Bri's house, we salvages as much
as we could and decided to pay tribute to the discarded labor of love
by collaging the apporpirate pages of the zine (leaving out personal
info, ect). Though we couldn't figure out who had made the zine, in a
perfect world, she'd be someone on this mailing list, would see this
and then get in touch. Short run of 40.

forest creature / ryan garbes and gerre hancock - blackest rainbow – cass - 10$
Forest Creature are an insane duo that emerged out of the brief Blackout Band sessions. Duo of Ben (former BR store employee) and Richard. Total nutso weirdo noise shit, dumb electronics and self taught drums clatters... thrown in some scrapes, fights and pure dense noise with the odd barely recognizable vocal and you got Forest Creature... one flowing blurted nightmare. Ryan Garbes is the drummer from Iowa's Raccoo-oo-oon, and on this release he is joined by organist Gerre Hancock. Inititially the opening to this sounds like your in the big top surrouned by some chirpy clowns, elephants hand standing on balls, and dudes in big hats taming tigers... But then the psychedelia hits in, and man is it a trip! Far out smoky drones with elephants getting high - Dumbo style. Clowns becoming some kinda Nosferatu blood suckers - Tom Cruise Interview with a Vampire style. Grooving stoned lions dancing reeaaaallll slow, kicking the tamers asses whilst giggling away. one hell of a far out experience. Cassette = 70 copies.

fossils - airport journals - 905 tapes - cass - 6$
the first time i saw fossils i was sitting far to stoned on a piano bench in ontario and they fucking killed it. i like to think that is exactly how they recorded "airport journals" - superfluously blazed on some canadian piano furniture. the boughner / smith / payne trio bring it here with thirty minutes of circuit crunching, mind numbing, limb twitching junk. shit that makes you grind your teeth and then fall over. these are some serious bottom of the ocean sounds. everything was recorded live, straight to tape, making for some raw crawls into the gutter.
-905

fossils / ghost moth - split - pendu sound – cass – 7$
These two bands are perfectly juxtaposed for a split, complimenting each other in their unique ways. Both create atmospheric spontaneous primitivist jamms from junk and homemade electronics. Ghost Moth is a trio that features multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter, a long time veteran of NYC's avant-garde. They open their side with a with a clarinet-led ecstatic ripper before collaging into a hissy live damaged flute jammy and lastly groping a clanging broken-scaper laced with late-night trumpet. Fossils begin their side with random scrapes and bluesey reverberations before heading into abstract scuzz and ghostly haunts.

fossils from the sun - from another sun – tape drift– cdr – 7$
Monster solo debut from Ray Hare of Century Plants and Burnt Hills. Ranging from meditative guitar mantras to blissed out noise to hazy melodic riffage, and covering most of the points in between, this release has fast become a favorite here at Tape Drift headquarters. of preparation and inspiration. Get on the train early - there's much more to come and you won't want to have missed out on the beginnings. Edition of 50.

66 minute long tonal excercise that works the fringes of the current free-drone underground up to the cosmic paradise shaped by astral travellers Ash Ra Tempel and the minimalist magic of Steve Reich’s Drumming. Funkhouser has that focus of a determined soul, never rushing, calmly pushing Cosmos to desolate plains where the dark purple mood of the album cover lingers across the horizon. Music for the breaking of a gloomy autumn dawn, coming down from whatever trip you’ve been on, weedsmoke still curling up from the bong…not a jacker in sight. Break in and zone out. andy futreal - ophelia wanders - music for acoustic guitar – harha-askel - cdr - 8$
An intimate offering of acoustic guitar wizardry from the UK-resident
Andy Futreal (who also appeared on Harha-askel's Goin' Down Slow
compilation and the Like Twilight Bleeding 3" cd-r on New American Folk
Hero). Recorded in 2004-2007 in North Carolina, USA, these improvised
pieces ran the gamut from blues and folk to more abstract explorations
of guitar strings (and field recordings). Futreal's playing combines
aspects of the "American primitive" picking of John Fahey (etc), the UK
folk/blues scene of the 60's and onwards (Bert Jansch, Davy Graham etc)
with some more exotic influences whilst retaining a quality all his

An unprecedented surprise from these New Zealanders. This one definitely stands out amongst the sludge-punk releases of old. Completely different approach here. The first main difference you'll notice will be the absence of any vocals. The second will be the absence of any drummer. And the third will be the absence of any common Futurianistics you've grown to know and love. Fear not, for it's just as punk-fucking-rawk as anything they've ever done...just in a different way. If you really do love them, then you will love this release. If you have yet to discover this unbelievable group, then this will definitely get you started on the wrong foot. Albeit, an unusually great one.

The southern hemisphere is weird, totally weird. New Zealand's especially mysterious and it's where all the dudes featured on this tape come from: they're the best the Land of the Long White Cloud has to offer . Elizabeth II endorses the Futurians as the dirtiest shredders her barnacle'd ears have ever heard-- the shredding sounds of the Futurians emit the dark and dank punk of yr neighbors' garage, assuming yr neighbors are totally raw, totally awesome, and totally from the 80's. But seriously, take off yr sludgy classes and put on a nice slick pair of sunglasses for Side B, Rise of the Cat City Cult transplant space in Oceania and offer. In the year 2055 aliens will be on earth, they'll discover this tape and rock to the blasting beats (if sounds could be colors, these would be totally neon) all night long. Ginja Krunch, Dr.MeowMeow, and Klam will be global celebrities! Live the past, the present and the future...seriously pickk this up--in a numbered edition of 60 copies, totally hand-dubbed, hand-painted, DIY shit. ryan garbes and gerre hancock / forest creature /- blackest rainbow – cass - 10$
Clowns becoming some kinda Nosferatu blood suckers - Tom Cruise Interview with a Vampire style. records - cd 14$ / lp-18$
first proper release from this headspinning acid/drone/raga crew thats been quietly haunting the northeast for a couple years now... for this album the band was marcia bassett (double leopards, hototogisu, zaimph, un, etc.) steve gunn, and pete nolan (magik markers, vanishing voice, etc.)... heavily dosed trips into eastcoast trance primitivism, gushing with mantric meshes of strings and voice. centered around bassett & gunn's acoustic guitar freeflow, and wrapped up in layers of hovering vocal mist, buzzing drones, percussive clatter, and nolan's subtle but massively psychedelic electric guitar moves. over five extended tracks things slide along from bone rattling minimal vibrations, dip into opiated folk beauty, and then blow things wide open with a full side of fevered, acid soaked raga lift-off... keep that third eye open folks... pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl and packaged in a sweet two color letterpress printed heavy black artboard cover, with a nice 8x10 photo insert shot by tom carter. hand numbered edition of 850 copies.(time-lag)

GHQ– heavy elements – three lobed – cd - 10$
released 15 august, 2006. following on the heels of their fantastic 2006 release cosmology of the eye, GHQ and three lobed recordings are proud to release the aptly titled heavy elements. culled together from a live performance in brooklyn (january 2006), the trio continues to explore the intricacies of electric/acoustic drones and ragas in what is their most intense set of recordings to date. for this recording the band consisted of marcia bassett (double leopards, hototogisu, zaimph), steve gunn and pete nolan (magik markers, spectre folk, the vanishing voice, etc).
heavy elements churns with the deeply layered drones that marked previous GHQ releases. while these sounds are present, this album differentiates itself from the band's prior outings through the addition of nearly-tribal drums and a more intense overall aural atmosphere. this is music that, while blissfully transcendent and beautiful, is not for the faint of heart. from a one-time pressing of 1000 copies. - three lobed

ghost moth / fossils- split - pendu sound – cass – 7$
These two bands are perfectly juxtaposed for a split, complimenting each other in their unique ways. Both create atmospheric spontaneous primitivist jamms from junk and homemade electronics. Ghost Moth is a trio that features multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter, a long time veteran of NYC's avant-garde. They open their side with a with a clarinet-led ecstatic ripper before collaging into a hissy live damaged flute jammy and lastly groping a clanging broken-scaper laced with late-night trumpet. Fossils begin their side with random scrapes and bluesey reverberations before heading into abstract scuzz and ghostly haunts.

glory fckn sun - spectra - tipped bowler tapes - lp - 14$
Antony Milton , Ben Spiers, and Simon O'Rorke concoct a slow-burning behemoth of metallic shivers and distortion churn, dark enough to invoke the dread name Haino.
Spectra is an unsettling mind-meld: Spiers desolate soundscapes bleed into Milton's heavy drones, which are complemented perfectly by O'Rorke's restless percussion. Group improvisation is the natural language of these three; even listing their solo and collaborative albums over the past decade would take way more effort than I can muster. Suffice to say this is a stellar and unique record to add to their massive discographies.

goliath bird eater - blood venus - nnf – cd – 8$
Few dudes understand the Eastern zen of heavy riffing more than Bobb Bruno. The man lives in a literal lair of black amps, black hair, and black metal, and only emerges to eat fried chicken or get wasted at Mika Miko shows. Blood Venus rages this yin/yang vibe to the speaker-shredding breaking point, alternating feedbacker obliteration with passages of complete tunnel vision drone stasis. The rampant guitar slaughter is epicly complemented by Jeremy Villalobos' iron hammer drum moves, which kick from stoner lopes to total crash attack, sometimes dropping out to peripheral cymbal shimmer, all in a sick split second. And you can truly hear it all, too, as the songs were tracked in the studio on serious two inch tape. Nine deafening epiphanies of black leather headbang war, somewhere between Sabbath, Sleep, and...qualuudes. Oh, and no vocals, cause they're too metal for that shit. In jewel cases, with weird blood-tentacle squid-witch cover art.

the goslings - occasion - nnf - cd - 11$
Hollywood, Florida family/band Max and Leslie Soren have been unleashing their private bouts of punishing ceremonial sludge-gaze for the past half a decade now, and there’s been some total titanic highlights (Between the Dead, Grandeur of Hair, etc). But the grunge swamp graveyard they seem to unearth their moss metal from must be profoundly fertile ground, because each new song-cycle they lay to tape is somehow even more miraculously brutal and shimmering and visionary than the one before it. This phenom holds true for Occasion, The Goslings’ newest and maybe deepest doom/beauty inquest. Eight thundering masterpieces of molten slime riff majesty, nightstalker drums, and soaring-into-the-sun female vox that crush the earth, bleed, and breathe in humid darkness. Ranging from the Slowdive-meets-Skullflower transcendent descent of “Motorcade” through to the quaking basement funeral of “Little Horn,” Occasion is a glorious passage into The Goslings’ hidden holy land. Mastered for optimal audio gravity by James Plotkin, and housed in a swank six-panel wallet-style metallic-ink digipak with artwork by the band.

gown (aka andrew macgregor and otherwise known as one-half of the bark haze with thurston moore) moved from western wassachusetts to nova scotia in mid-2007. before he moved, he wanted to have one big audio blow-out to remember the grand old mass times. with that goal in mind, gown went into the studio with the sunburned hand of the man gang (represented this time out by john moloney, sarah o'shea, ron schneiderman and taylor richardson) to melt some audio consoles. for the maples represents a portion of that recorded output and believe us, it's some massive stuff. sunburned's thick funk presents the perfect background for gown's shredding guitar-play. extremely hot stuff, especially the massive side-long "bending close." click here for a downloadable preview, "taylor's jam."

graveyards - harmm's way - the lotus sound - cdr - 9$
"This '07 recording represents the darkest smolders of Feldman meetsThreadgill meets cacophonic church bells performed in a manufacturing plant in the Graveyards catalog. Rather than filling every possible
space with the common horror vacui free jazz attacks the duo's riposte lets the sky open unto the bleakest corners they can find.
A return to the early, pre-Wolf Eyes Olson-Hall duet square-offs, this 'cello-less document finds Olson grasping with the Braxton-Teitlebaum sides and Hall running the push-pull linearity of Xenakis circa Psappha and addition to the Milford Graves poly-metered rewirings of flash card rudiments.
The hiatus of Buetow's 'cello in the forum alleviates much of the homage to contemporary classical phraseology and architecture. What it lacks in mock-intellectuality brains it makes up for in the post-fire music brawn of any reasonably raucous energy."-Ben Hall

Clocking-in at just over 40 minutes, the five-track "Candlelight Eyes EP" showcases the signature heartbreaking and brooding melancholy of its aforementioned sister-album, and at times incorporates intimate chamber folk arrangements, all of which draw more from the musical heritage of the mid-1970's German electronic underground, that inspired Bowie's Berlin trilogy, than the pastoral musings of 1970's psychedelic folk. Steve Gunn is probably best known as a key component to the mighty GHQ with Marcia Bassett (Double Leopards) and Pete Nolan (Magik Markers), but his solo efforts have been even more impressive. With a couple limited & hard-to-find CDRs under his belt and a few offerings under the moniker Moongang, Gunn is ready to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight with his first proper CD. This music is finely tuned and expertly crafted by Gunn's capable hands, showing his skill not only as a guitarist, but as a songwriter as well.
"Sundowner" may short & sweet, but it has an epic feeling. Gunn reaches deep into the vaults to line the walls with hypnotic acoustic guitar dirges, organic drones, and banjo ditties. And unlike any of his previous work, he also unleashes his voice on three songs, showing that not only can he play with the best of them, he can sing too. When he's not wowing the listener racing around the fretboard, his simple but effective vocal hooks are sinking themselves deep into the confines of your memory.

hands of sand - clay dreams - odomez serie #2 - nothing out there- cdr – 11$
The english sound artist Mark Peter Wright is the second contributor to the ongoing Odomez Serie here at NOTHINGoutTHERE, successfully following Robert Horton's effort last year.
Mark worked out of a package of Odomez goods I sent to him, and came out with a masterful, half-an-hour piece of inspired and fascinating musique concrète, infused with field recordings and musical events. An all the while deep, dense and optimistic voyage into Odomez' imaginary.
Here is what Hands Of Sand writes about this recording process :
"When the package arrived its contents seemed so dry, coughed up from a choked earth, staved of water, starved of life. This thirst and need for renewal became the central compositional focus – an overall cycle of water to stone, a journey from liquid to solid."
Odomez... it's a small town up north in France, inside which is located a huge and beautiful land of strangeness. Before 1965, it was a chemical-textile factory. After that, no one really knew. Like a quiet jungle of metal and plants. The Odomez Serie aims at keeping the memory of that place alive, now that it is doomed to demolition, and to call for musical and visual collaborations. Every artist contributing will be sent an artwork related to the place as an inspiration. More about Odomez here.
Clay Dream's artwork is a postcard from Odomez to you. Its mail envelope includes postcards with prints of my Temporary serie of photographies, and writings about Odomez (from the Sense-of-Place contributions and others). Last but not least, n.o.t.#6 also includes extended liner-notes by Hands Of Sand about his recording process.

Gareth Hardwick & Machinefabriek - Lost In The Memory/Bathyale (Parts 2 & 3) - low point – lp – 16.50$
Side A - Gareth Hardwick’s contribution to this split LP is the latest in a flurry of releases this year, with each one only serving to cement his growing reputation as one of the UK’s leading experimental ambient artists. ‘Lost in the Memory’ is perhaps his strongest recording to date – an exquisite 15 minute piece that demonstrates both the rapid development of his approach to composition and his masterful technique and control of whichever instrument he chooses to pick up. In this case, Gareth turns his attention to the lap steel guitar, which whilst heavily processed and beautifully affected, remains recognisable. As the piece begins, a glissando chord progression develops through graceful swells and mournful slides, movements so delicate that they almost give the impression that you are listening to some forgotten requiem or arcane arrangement for a string quartet. In time, these movements settle upon one longing tone, a desolate lament for a feeling once held or moment now past. And then comes the coup de grace: an unexpected harmony elevates the piece and the arrangement flourishes: a moment of pure euphoria before the denouement of the final sombre chords.
Side B - Machinefabriek is the working name of Rutger Zuydervelt, a musician and graphic designer based in Arnhem, The Netherlands. Since beginning in 2004, his prolific output, formed through a series of limited monthly self-released 3" cds, collaborations and albums has been matched only by the unfeasibly high standard of these creations.
Machinefabrieks side of the release, 'Bathyale (Parts 2&3)' is a specially re-edited version of a 2006 recording originally intended for broadcast on VPRO's Zeldzaam Dwars. Over the course of 17 minutes, we are presented with a perfect overview of the myriad of styles that Rutger crams into his musical repertoire – processed hiss and static dissolve effortlessly into sublime melodic drones with bursts of controlled feedback acting as anchoring points to the composition. The result is a powerfully hypnotic yet strongly realised track that acts as the perfect compliment to both artists work.

taiga remains / gareth hardwick - split - low point– 10" – 16$
A meeting of minds from across the Atlantic, this release pairs UK resident Gareth Hardwick with Taiga Remains of the USA for two sides of solo experimental guitar.
Gareth Hardwick’s contribution to the release, “High Tension”, continues to demonstrate his unique take on guitar-based ambience. The patented smears of processed guitar are still present, whilst more dissonant elements including fuzz, hiss and static have also been introduced to bolster and underpin the nature of the composition.
Taiga Remains is the solo guise of Alex Cobb, label head of Students of Decay and resident of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Taiga Remains track, ‘Pantomime Bodies’ presents an intricate listening environment that through layer upon layer of sound reveals new depth and tones with every play.

Machine."Static" is one long sixty minute track recorded in a caravan
on a hot day in May 2008, and is an improvisation based loosely on
the process of dreaming. The track contains some lovely acoustic

sparkly colours in red, blue, silver and gold on white card.

headdress - turquoise - open range records - cass - 6$
Headdress glide and coast off the wings of a night-owl onto the ribbons of magnetic tape. A cool mellow breeze through the quiet desert air full of acoustic guitars and tambourines. Sometimes there's even keys (plugged into a Cactus I'm sure) all melting together into a sandy quilt of minimal psychedelic songs. Like WWVV in the Texas deserts. Haunting vocals and steady simple rhythms. A re-release of the Turquoise CDR but now with an extra nine minute jam! Due to some absolutely idiotic math on my end the tapes have six minutes of silence at the end of the b-side. Think of it as time to relax and recollect yourself after being softly blown away. In an edition of 50 with 3-panel fold-out art

heatsick - perpendicular rain - nnf - cs - 6$
Berlin-based Bird of Delay Steven Warwick has been winging away from the BoD nest under his Heatsick moniker with increasing frequency the past couple years, and each new flight seems to soar into ever more varied airstreams of cyclonic electronics and emotional wind-riding. Perpendicular Rain is his most recent convection cell, and it pits two pendulum-tilting pieces against one another for a beatific blowout of barometric disorientation. “Suspended Horse, Carousel” rides an orchestral morning glory hallucination forklift into total mind white out, layers of radial confusion overlapping in a circus wheel of entrancing electricity. One of Warwick’s audio-life highlights to date. The B, “Perpendicular Rain,” opts to flatline into more of a classic Heatsick stasis vortex (a lot like his semi-recent Reverse Gardens CS), wiring every circuit into itself till the mainframe collapses under its own wall/cloud weight. Let it come down. Hand-cut tape-labeled pro-dubbed red tapes in full-color double-sided fold-out J-cards with art by Warwick, plus a slight metallic stencil. Edition of 100.

heavy eye of the sun - iii - digitalis recordings - cdr - 8$
i've been wanting to put out something by heavy eye of the sun for years and now, nearly two years after their last self-released cd-r, "iii" is locked & loaded. this montreal-based duo create sprawling, monolithic landscapes of sound, barely held together by the flickering of their voices. this is their most involved and evocative work yet.
sparse forests of acoustic instrumentation conjure up ancient spirits that the duo channel without abandon. the hypnotic nature of their collective vocals lull you into a trance. bowed zithers and guitars drone and creak into oblivion. heavy eye of the sun suck you into their world and don't let go until they are good and ready. this is enchanted music. limited to 80 handnumbered copies, packaged in oversized hand-stamped envelopes w/ two inserts & handstamped cd-rs.

brand new three trax release from portland / brooklyn based unit which comes on the heels of the bands recently re-issue disc, and highly excellent three lobed release “blacc lust”, comes three long playing journeys into psych noise dronedom.
i’m not a huge fan of the press release description game where the label goes on to babble and make absurd quotes like “sounds like every band that has sold a shit load of records this past month if you combine sunno))) with your mamma then you know exactly how great this record is”. i’d just like to humbly state to me it comes off like the bardo pond brothers recording in the lo-fi high fuzz induced kitchen of the goslings. all label claims aside listen to the clip!! package comes packed in a double cover center opening sleeves with the outer shell being a vellum overlay wonderfully executed graphically by chase middaugh. single pressing of 600 copies

heavy winged – we grow – nnf - lp - 11$
Today is the greatest. Cause time has come for total take off. Brooklyn/PDX instrumental interstellar overdrivers Heavy Winged deliver the most gravity-crushing pair of fight-flight journeys in their entire cumulative psych revolution thus far. And it is glorious. We Grow is the apex realization of every tectonic assault, wind tunnel vortex, and outer space meltdown HW have ever unleashed across the past 15 months worth of stunning CDRs, splits, and comp appearances. The A side, “A Stretch of Time,” slow-burns an ascent into explosive galactic violence, guitars, bass, and drums detonating into endless feedback fireworks. Then “Shifting Clouds” closes the album, marching a drifting riff of haze and mass into a majestic no man’s land of darkening space. A masterpiece record, and packaged accordingly. Blackened-blue vinyl LPs with collage center labels housed in full-color pro-printed jackets, in sleeves adorned with rad oval vinyl stickers, plus a hand-numbered insert. Limited t0 450.

this gang of power-driving rock really have their flavor of overdriven high rise-style proto-metal-psych noise down flat. blacc lust reissues two long out-of-print parts of the band's discography that were originally released in tiny CD-R micro editions (a serpent's lust from an edition of 100 on digitalis, and blacc stork from an edition of 50 on students of decay). a little over an hour of good, heavy times. from a one-time pressing of 500 hand-numbered copies housed within arigato! paks bearing original artwork by beverly shana palmer.

hello astronaut goodbye television - pixielated math costumes - nnf - cd - 10$
Well, the long, lame wait is OVER. Sun Valley/Tujunga teamsters Hello Astronaut, Goodby Television finally re-drop their sold-out old opus, PMC. Howevs, last year’s pizza-punk production has been replaced by a California winter’s worth of shut-in bedroom-studio tinkering/obsession (not to mention a fancy-pants mastering job by J Golden), and now the jams shine like kitchen knives. 11 subtly hostile pop anthems of Evol guitar gestures, Philip K. Dick-style heartbreak, and orchestral post-teen existentialism, rounded out by a rare handful of secret solo recordings. You could call these songs “pretty,” but you’d probably get decked during the Minor Threat cover’s brutal mosh pit. Don’t forget: beauty lies in the middle finger of the beholder. Epicly, intensely, and truly OFF THE CHAIN (not not fun)

hells hills - little matter of death - obsolete units - cass - 5$
An aural hallucination of multi-manned brash and foggy ambiance, three pieces drift forever-penetrable with clouded vapors, dank electronics met with possible codes and all manner of using instruments both standard and near-imaginary for the greater good of providing ominous comfort. A much-needed documentation of a musical force with already infamous happenings in-the-flesh, Little Matter Of Death is the debut recording from the Brooklyn-based quintet Hells Hills. An echoing guitar dream eventually gives way to a piece of guttural vocal shouts punctuated by lost beats and the utmost pile of astral sounds. Ending on the flip with a staggering quarter-hour session of their harshest and most surreal strengths manifested live to some lucky attendees, Hells Hills punctuate with a drone-infused mission, yet always finds strange diversions and other bits of sonic paraphernalia to coat these songs with an unequivocally luminous stamina.

Helm is the solo project of Luke Younger, one half of the London/Berlin
noise duo Birds of Delay and guitarist for avant-weirdos Spin Spin The
Dogs.
Drawing equally upon noise and ambient elements, the music on Impasse
illustrates Younger’s continuing development within the field of
experimental electronics and drone composition. Utilising synths, feedback
systems and effects, these two long-form tracks offer a dense mixture of
blistering yet melodic walls of sound.

helm - the illuminated factory - peasant magik - cass - 7$
I first got this master while watering plants at a local mall. Every week I would go in at night, strap on a full body harness, lock myself to the railing, jump over the side, and go to work on hundreds of plants, while continuously flipping this tape over and over. The perfect soundtrack to floating three stories up while breathing in harsh chemical fertilizers and watching the leaves fall on the janitors below. The title track is one of the best Helm tracks to date. Forward moving phase shifts buried under blankets of high end pulses, only subsiding to make room for some of the most inviting tones this side of Tangerine Dream. Side B's Hearts Like Broken Motors is a full 19 minutes of new age synth onslaught. Covers designed and printed by James Livingston of Black Horizons. 12 were printed on tan paper, the remaining on black. Black high bias chrome tapes.

chris herbert / felix - as blue as your eyes lover/what i learned from tv - low point – 7" – 9$
Side A - Offering a sneak preview of his 2nd full-length album currently in production for Kranky, ‘As Blue As Your Eyes Lover’ marks a continuation of Chris Herbert’s inimitable approach to ambient composition. Using a variety of collaged found sounds augmented by smears of processed electric guitar and muted percussion, this hypnotic 6-minute track is typical of Chris’ refusal to simply plough the well-trodden path. His subtle and layered blend of field recordings, musique concrete, harmony and dissonance create a thoroughly idiosyncratic sonic world; free from ambient cliché, the rich wealth and range of sounds employed reflect the beautiful chaos of the urban environment from which they are born.
Side AA - Felix is the creative pseudonym of Nottingham chanteuse Lucinda Chua. After several self-released cdrs of lo-fi bedroom recordings, this side of the split single marks the first time Lucy’s compositions have been augmented by additional personnel, in this instance the guitar work of Chris Summerlin. Combining cello, piano and Lucy’s hushed vocals, this specially recorded version of ‘What I Learned From TV’ presents a perfect introduction to the sparse and hauntingly beautiful song craft of Miss Chua.
