machinefabrik & freiband - small environs -low point– cd – 12$
‘Oahu’ is a collaborative release between Dutch sound artists Freiband (the latest project of Frans de Waard, founder of the Korm Plastics label and member of Kapotte Muziek, Beequeen and Goem to name but three) and Machinefabriek (the prolific Rutger Zuydervelt).
The genesis of the project was a 90 second recording of improvised acoustic lapsteel (the Oahu of the title) played by Martin Luiten. From this initial recording, segments of music, each lasting 30 seconds in length, were created then passed back and forth between de Waard and Zuydervelt over a period of four months for further processing, editing and refinement. Finally, with a collection of 20 of these segments, each artist composed their own 20 minute mix using these pieces.
Though the nature of processing and reprocessing applied to the initial recording of the lapsteel makes it at times almost unrecognisable, the harmonic and melodic essence of the instrument is retained and utilised throughout. And whilst unified by the source material at their disposal, these two tracks have a distinct feel and identity that manage to perfectly encapsulate the work of both artists.
Cd packaged in a matt printed digipak case. Ltd edition of 450 copies.

maggoted– 1000 shutdowns– cut hands - 3" cdr - 8$
At long last, a brand new burner by Pete Swanson (Yellow Swans, Badgerlore) and Robert Mayson (Grey Daturas) in their down low Maggoted guise. The moonlit shadow that looms over their more known outlets. 1000 Shutdowns enfolds the dark side of the duo through wailing walls of uncomprimising feedback backed up by gorgeous guitar noise evoking some kind of zombie choir style chanting affair. Beyond deep. Edition of 80 copies, squashed maggot artwerk by Jason Rohm.

magik markers - feel the crayon -nnf – lp –12$
This is a moment of heavy honor dudes. Magick Markers scrawled a permanent place in NNF’s heart the first time we jammed their deranged-shaman society-ripper “White Bikini” at max volume. Instantly became a total dream to carve that magik on sike-adelic vinyl. This IS that dream. Originally released as a limited-run 7-song CDR by the awesome east coasters, Apostasy Recordings, the wax edition of Feel the Crayon shaves 2 of the emptier tracks (for length/sound quality purposes), creating a harsher, denser document of their ecstatic feedback questing. full colour printed jackets, purple vinyl, new insert, no art booklet

kawabata makoto- hosanna mantra - a silent place - lp - 18$
Guitarist, violinist, performer on numerous traditional instruments, composer, leader of the Acid Mothers Temple, Kawabata Makoto express in this solo performance all his mantric cosmical vocation to space sonorities! He took inspiration from the Popul Vuh homonymous album of the seventies "Hosanna Mantra", during his visit to 'A Silent Place' head quarter in late Winter 2006. In a sunny Sunday noon spent in the country-side, eating and drinking Apulian specialities and listening to some great experimental records, Makoto and his Italian friends Pierpaolo and Pasquale, took the decision to start this cooperation. A few days later, back to Japan, Makoto recorded the "Hosanna mantra" album at the 'Acid Mothers Temple' between March 12th and 13th, using electric guitar, bouzouki and sitar. The result is this new fantastic sound comes from the 'cosmos'... a quite simple gem of crystalline beauty. Comes in a luxurious gatefold sleeve! Front cover photo by Kawabata Makoto, featuring the mystical octagonal castle of the XII century, placed in Andria... where 'A Silent Place' is!

robert martin - long goodbyes - yik yak – lp – 14$
I first heard Robert Martin's Long Goodbye while
surrounded by friends. Even over the din of voices
rallying to quantify, qualify, contain, bag and tag
what we were all hearing, I was sure I'd never heard
anything quite like it.
Long Goodbye opens with some broken acoustic noodling
that sounds like a Derek Bailey slow motion replay,
over which a double-tracked cry of voices transmits
mournfully, meticulously, and with an unnerving sense
of purpose. From there it gets stranger and more
beautiful, as Martin sings with unique abandon - is
there such a thing as sad joy? - often wordlessly,
frequently incoherently. The tunefulness of Martin's
achingly beautiful voice sits in sharp contrast to the
crudely played guitar, and sets Martin apart from his
lamentably more 'in the know' contemporaries.
There are few touchstones for the magic contained
herein - Bobb Trimble at his most wounded, Tony Caro
and John's All On The First Day LP, the earliest blues
recordings of Guitar Roberts - but Martin's intensely
private music is all his own. And now, ours to share.

math balances volumes - s/t - taped sounds –cass – 8$
okay, i saw these guys live on the nice Color Out Of Space festival last year, and what they presented was one of the best shows i saw in 2007. a truly weird blend of smoked out psychedelic rumble played by a guitar player and a tapeplayer. people were crying for help during their set due to the high level of insight and knowledge that was being transmitted. because after all, i guess one cannot understand everything and it hurts to be "in the unknown". but anyways, my mind tripped out so heavily on their live / life information that i couldn't resist to hassle them into a tape release asap. and this is it. this is misissipi blues played in the local arcade. this is a collage of synchronicity. these are the workings of Babalon... and when i was playing the mastertape for J C Scanner, his individual scannercells collectively popped out as well, so this album is co-released with the Zeikzak (http://www.jellecrama.com). all the tapecases come with individually unique painted / colored / stickered / ??? artwork by our little brothers. information is pain.

Matta Llama are already one of the most talked about bands in New York City, but after the psych beardstrokers, dateless dronemongers, and stoner rock wastoids get ahold of this, the band's name will be express-delivered to 'legendary' status alongside Trad Gras Och Stenar, Edgar Broughton Band, and High Rise. Featuring gifted artist Arik Moonhawk Roper on bass, this relentless foursome have crafted one of the most explicitly psychedelic and teeth-rattling albums to come along in years. HR39 Sean McCann - Shore Net c17 pitch-shifted hand percussions playfully bounce around a swirling synth feel-good thunderstorm on the 'a' side. the vocal work here is exceptionally fantastic and it's all over the stereo spectrum.. eventually found sounds somehow flutter their way into the already ultra-saturated reels and the vibe just keeps getting stronger. things get more abstract on the other side where driving hand-beaten rhythms bow down to pitch play and infinitely layered weirdness.

sean mccann - sway - stunned records - cdr - 7$
"Sean McCann doesn’t seem content standing still in the same place for too long. His thankfully consistent tape & cdr reports beam in evidence that for this recent San Francisco transplant, a solo jam is the romper room in which to include all sounds and exclude all rules. Sway presents a distinct turn in Sean’s focuses and obsessions of the moment. Tender guitar & synth interplay gives way to epic washes of white and bliss, then rounds the bend to bonked floor-stomp raga, inevitably to run the cycle again in lost languages of electricity. Totally essential McCann. Ltd. 80 handnumbered cdrs in polyvinyl sleeve with some of our favorite Ted Trager art design yet."

matt mcdowell - qunatum heresy - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$
Matt McDowell first came to notoriety as a member of the Arco Flute Foundation and has appeared in a variety of projects mostly emanating from his home of Portland, OR. McDowell's most recent solo outing finds him honing his vision to
form an extended composition incorporating layers of electronics,

Elements of early minimalism, musique concrete (ala Richard Maxfield,

playing combine to create a deep listening exercise akin to waking up
on fire to find yourself lost at sea.

Switching instruments and experimenting with recording techniques,
Meneguar has cooked up a totally unique(and surprising) record. The In
Hour channels the spontaneity and aesthetics of Swell Maps, the pop
hooks of the Zombies, and lyrical collage of Guided By Voices.
Everything was home recorded at their little Xanadu in Brooklyn, Rear House,
home base to the Woodsist label and the changing roster of Meneguar's
alter egos(Woods, Shepherds). Only six months since their last record, The In Hour
represents a serious departure that still holds true to the band's undeniable pop sensibility.

metal rouge – eulogy for keeler – phantom limb recordings - cdr - 6$
Sometimes the roses grow close to home, right outside your window. We in Los Angeles are proud to have this
phenomenal duo making their triumphant and terrifying tones in our backyard. Andrew Scott and Helga Fassonaki are
true creators of sonic thickness, merging razor strings with buzzing overdriven fuzz, but also laying back to a deep
silence and imaginary pulses.
"Eulogy for Keeler" is a document of their trip to the American desert and the ghost towns within. It is a photograph
taken with these phantoms, an interview with the forgotten and voiceless dead.

metal rouge - storm veil / desert champion - nnf - cass - 6$
Ex-Auckland high artists Helga Fassonaki and Andrew Scott first began hammering their flux-core electronics into sustained tunnels of pale fire back in early 2006, when living down under in New Zealand's thriving hive of free music freemasons. Their early documents were obscure, open-mouthed starclusters of harsh Hototogisu-heatspells, FX-heavy improv, and isolated tinkering. Since relocating to the Hollywood grid, however, the Metal Rouge matrix has transformed significantly. Recent volumes of their excellent Ephemeroptera series, as well the Eulogy For Keeler disc (on Phantom Limb), have showcased MR's increasingly controlled avant noise architectures, but Storm Veil/Desert Champion strikes their best balance yet. Both sides unfold from keening, tense beams of drone light, layering levels of expressionist tones one after the other, slowly growing into futurist frenzy, a thousand interstitial atoms of tempest noise warring for amp space. A focused and furious 40 minutes at the forge/4-track. Pro-dubbed, shell-imprinted tapes in cardstock J-cards adorned with metallic fabric shreds plus gold flecks. Edition of 100.e are 6 songs.

paul metzger - gedanken splitter - roaratorio - lp -14$
Paul Metzger continues to pile up the plaudits from critics and peers alike for his virtuosic string-slinging, gaining notice through his CD on Chairkickers and his split LP with Ben Chasny and Chris Corsano on Roaratorio. Metzger’s modified banjo is tricked out with additional sympathetic raga strings, although the compositions on Gedanken Splitter are informed by much more than Eastern drone music alone. Recorded in the same period as 2007’s Deliverance on Locust Music, this is a more jagged and aggressive (although no less accessible) affair. Metzger winds these improvisations around thornier threads than on his previous releases, and while never turning completely abstract, Gedanken Splitter moves even further away from anything resembling typical banjo fare. This is mesmerizing and singular playing.

evan miller - s/t - is night people – cass - 5$
Miller is back at it with a new tape for Night-People. This one cuts real deep, Miller at his most epic. The A side starts things up with deep echo's swimming around cut up tape manipulations, leading into chambers of drone with Miller's characteristic tonal vocals transitioning into a kind of finger picked sentimental raga. The B side offers up a real burner, perhaps Millers best straight acoustic number, a real beautiful complex side that plays between minimalistic somber portions and upbeat workouts. from maritime fist glee club: "there are things that should not be thought through too much. otherwise one runs the risk of demystifying the object, the event, the sound and relegates it, whatever it happens to be, to a dead world, a world of commodities and things for use. it is better to accept these things as gifts, moments of sartori or aporia, that unfold according to their logic and timing.

monitors /kk rampage - split - dnt records - 3" cdr - 4$
"March’s battle of Monitors v. KK Rampage provides nine tracks of experimental, yes, but totally premeditated and practiced RnR. Of like mind, Missouri’s Monitors and Chicago’s KK Rampage give-up four and five tracks, perfect 7” EPs of jagged post-punk familiar to GSL, 31G, and related rosters of Southern California noise-makers. Monitors’ wordless approach is dominated by Polvo guitar and tom-tom racing on complete tracks like “Tycho Brahe” and the six-minute jam “Demophon”, a bit of keyboard added to the latter’s airy lead-in, and with more grind-and-lurk on the opposing tracks. The VSS grind of “Dark Desire” links both bands as the trebly, discordant replies of the band to the pained pleas of KK Rampage vocalist Johnny Rampage recall many the AmRep band, particularly Hammerhead, and late-90s California like early Rapture; “A Fading Moment” is so sincere it could be a cover for all I know, and “Teeth Like a Knife” is a fine, Factory-style closer with dance bass-line and entrenched vocals before a group sing-along among the downpour of crashing cymbals. Rad! Two full bands of 2xgtr/bass/drum formation, they may prove to be the only classic rockers in the series." (review by Animal Psi)

mossy throats / scissor shock - jk tapes - cass - 5$
Two uniquely individual mid-western brobots explore sonic solidness, individually. Stylized jams come crystallize to form an entity totally intangible. Mossy Throats, Dan from Haunted Castle's solo outlet, occupies the first side--atmospheric incantations, mind ripping (tape + voice) manipulations, aesthetically accurate progressive awareness. Spiky drones drenched with electronic force prove to be an epic look within the michi-ground. Indiana epitaph Scissor Shock throws down on the other side--definitely some internally next-level jams. Digital distractions are controlled in chaos. Sounds create a puzzle that no one but their creator can solve, but; that can make for a totally dynamic experience. Electrocuted and (re)electrocuted shoegazed d's that can be enjoyed on both the macro and micro level. Two solo outlets uniting to create something more than themselves--an epic exploration Magellan would've likely approved of.

mouthus - sister vibration - our mouth – lp – 12$

mouthus - no canal - bottrop boy - cd - 15$
Guitar, drums and electronics. There are no further requirements for turning the world on its head. Since their inception in 2002, Mouthus from Brooklyn have delighted and enraptured their audience. Thundering noise eruptions, mail-fisted guitar drones, infernal drumbeats and an indomitable drive are these devilish duos hallmarks. This is undiluted rock ‘n’ rock for noise junkies. When it comes to live performances, Mouthus are unbeatable. Nevertheless, in order to nourish the other parts of the soul, Mouthus alternate their teeth-grindingly loud shows with recordings into which rage and energy are consummately channelled. No Canal follows a different path altogether. Guitarist Brian Sullivan and drummer Nate Nelson lead the listener on a journey of exploration. Past bricked-up walls of sound and through a swamp of drones the duo descries a terra incognita, a dark world of sound in which innocent idylls of nature are soon subjected to the destructive forces of industrialisation.
Initially, pastoral guitar parts are heard, pursued by drums in the distance. This is ethereal music in the tradition of bands like Popol Vuh. The promised land is hidden behind low mist and impenetrable green. But all hope proves idle: torturing guitar feedback and tribal drums soon tear the dream apart. The industrial torrent of sound seems unstoppable. This is music that reveals itself as a tired, technological beast with a slow heartbeat and creaking limbs. The subliminal menace and naked demise remain audible and tangible. This is a story that has to be told. Mouthus cannot be silenced.
No Canal is packed in the beautiful 'envelope' packaging, designed and hand printed by Jason Dodge & Christine Roland, a one-off pressing of 250 copies.

mouthus – for the great slave lakes – three lobed – cd - 10$
nate nelson and brian sullivan have continuously thrilled those fortunate enough to follow their exploits as mouthus over the last several years. in their "official" releases on labels such as ecstatic peace and important through their more exploratory self-released missives, the duo's powerful fuzz guitar and distorto drum blasts have ignited everything that dares to stand in their path. for the great slave lakes marks a new high water mark for mouthus' craft.
tracks such as "crosses shape" and "your land as a nation" showcase the mouthus sound through drones and wails. the rattle and squall of the disc's first half sets the tone for the massive mind-expansion which is the concluding forty-two minute exploration titled "compound my eyes." inspiration has never sounded so beautiful.

"A side each of fertile noise-rot from Montreals Cousins of Reggae and Brooklyns Mouthus. Soundly rejected by Discovery Channel - the Cousins five-track suite about the Hudson Bay follows up their limited & hard-to-find debut l.p. They set sail with some hyperactive stompers and narcoleptic stumblers intent on capsizing all vessels in their path before coming under attack by a squadron of pissed off jet-skiiers. On flip are two massive Mouthus jams - "New Drugz" & "Better Than Facemask" which perfectly capture a day spent peaking on mescaline at the Daytona 500. Limited edition of 500 with unique handpainted covers and full-color inserts.." - OESB.

mudboy - hungry ghosts! these songs are doors - nnf – lp – 12$
For most of us, the doors of perception are triple-bolted shut and cast in bomb-proof iron. Only supernatural shapeshifters (or career criminals) can slip through and seize the wisdom within. But, sweetly, there is a hidden entrance: musick-as-magick. Providence, RI patch-cable conjuror Mudboy is one such secret key-crafter and his unlocking labors on this long-player stand at the summit of his already awesome discography. Alchemizing stylized soundtrack spells, organ wizardry, melodic mind-reading, and elegantly meditative harmonium hallucinations, Hungry Ghosts! These Songs Are Doors lights an urn’s worth of ritual powders and powers, filling the speakers with a sign language of smoke runes and ghost tones. Lie on the floor and be floored by Mudboy’s primordial plainsongs. Record comes housed in a dizzyingly intricate laser die-cut fold-over cover with an acutely aligned flame-silkscreened inner sleeve. Painstaking and perfect. Half on blood-red wax, half on black. Limited to 500.

mudboy - hungry ghosts! these songs are doors - digitalis recordings - enhanced cd - 12$
Mudboy dares you to find a suitable label for his warped sonic missives. But find one way to trap him and he changes direction and weasels out under the cracks in the wall. This is music for those who like to skit the line between light and dark, because believe Mudboy himself when he says that this record is all about the dark arts. His spells and incantations are the perfect guide through this analog labyrinth. "Hungry Ghosts" is at times hypnotic, dabbling in psychedelia, but is also disorientating like a house of mirrors. The circuit bent organ and arsenal of pedals does Mudboy well and will keep you guessing for as long as you're willing to give it a go. This album is a grower, but after a few listens you'll find yourself completely hooked.
On "Hungry Ghosts," the listener is given glimpses into a whole host of new worlds. Each song is like a diorama; intricate, detailed, and totally 3-D. You'll find yourself wandering aimlessly through this mess of devilish sonic missives only to realize that once it ends, not only are you lost, but completely entranced and calm. This is meditative music for the agitated soul. Like poltergeists that haunt belfries and spires, Mudboy is never in one place for too long.
This is the CD version of the recent LP on Not Not Fun. This enhanced CD contains the same music as well as a short video by Mudboy, "Othern Lights." The disc is packaged in lasercut & slightly burned cardstock sleeves with matching insert. It's similar to the LP, only more intricate.

mix of elements of KITARO, JOE MEEK, and even some hits of an
introspective DENNIS WIZE. fantastic stuff for the upcoming summer

murmansk - live - foxglove - cdr - 8$
another gem from the land of ireland graces us with this live document from deserted village pawnpins, murmansk. always a group to be steeped in organic excesses, these three live performances (culled from three separate dates in 2004 and 2005) show off the group's multiple personalities. the creaking and scraping from a bevy of bowed strings is apparent, but unlike many previous releases is accompanied by a smattering of electronics. this darkness is an unexpected treat. it's like being caught unexpectedly in the rough seas of the north atlantic: dense and choppy and there's no end to what lurks below.

murmansk – s/t – deserted village – cdr - 10$
Finally another Murmansk album, once again too inscrutable for a title. Recorded in early 2004,
this marks the move towards increasingly alien, electronic territory.

mutanea - sleepy sounds electric - ikuisuus – cdr – 6$
Mutantea is Anla Courtis (Reynols), J.Koho (Kulkija, Aan, Vapaa, Keijo & Free Players) and Jani Hirvonen (Uton, Aan, Last Night On Earth) - recorded early 2006 in Helsinki, at the night time, in the middle of darkest winter, after the show in gallery, just before going to sleep. Three electric guitars, with differert effects and styles to play, together in this mass, which gave us this wave called 'Mutantea'. Includes also arts by Bart de Paepe (Sloow Tapes).

All tracks take a more composed route than previous and more recent works and blur the lines between Rough Harsh Noise, Power Electronics and almost Industrial Soundscapes. 50+ minutes of blown out hatred from northern England's most loved/hated (depending who you talk to). If you were to pick up just one item from this lad's messy and plain filthy discography, let this be the one. muura - black & gold butterflies - digitalis recordings - cass - 7$
matt earle is one hell of a magic man. from new south wales in the land of oz, earle has unleashed his own country on his fabulous breakdance the dawn label. there's an endless stream of releases from his various projects (xnobbqx, sun of the seventh sister, muura, the minerals, et al). it never gets old and it never, ever ends.
so, as my obsession with earle's output grew and grew, i had to bring him over an ocean to the land of digitalis. with that i offer the first of numerous bdtd-related releases, this from his main solo guise, muura. "black & gold butterflies" is the bones of the blues. deconstructed and reassembled with spackle and duct tape. each fractured note hangs on by a thread, clinging to a mirage of junkyard dreams. limited to 50 handnumbered copies on yellow tapes

muuttuvat kasvot– s/t – ikuisuus– cdr - 10$
Muuttuvat Kasvot is another special project by J.Koho, who is better known by his groups Vapaa, Free Players (also Keijo & The Free Players), Aan (duo with J.Hirvonen / Uton), and Uton (mostly just live shows). His main solo project is called Kulkija, which has released few limited edition cdr's so far and he also appeared in Last Visible Dog's massive 6CD compilation Invisible Pyramid - The Elegy Box.
This Muuttuvat Kasvot cdr is originally released as a small print for Uton tour summer 2006 in Scotland, England, Netherlands, Belgium and France. It's a compilation of different projects by J.Koho, solo recordings, duo or even trio recordings from few years back to the day of first releasing date. 4 track recordings, forest folk drones & small rhythms, navigating from the tiny bushes of earth to sometimes even higher grounds of space atmospheres, still having the own unique sound. Really essential, and too good to be just forgotten as a limited edition. Taste this, dive inside the moment and see!"

my cat is an alien - sotto le stelle - lost treasures of the underworld – lp - 35$
(etched lp, ltd. edition of 100; purple vinyl with etching by Roberto Opalio on one side; 3 color screen-printed covers)
In summer 2007 MCIAA were invited by Sonic Youth to tour with them in Northern Italy; "Sotto le Stelle" is a long excerpt from the recording of their shocking live performance at the Ferrara Sotto Le Stelle festival, which takes place every year in the main square of the historical city centre, right in front of the wonderful medieval Estense Castle. On the flipside Roberto Opalio's first ever vinyl etching, as well as his exclusive cover artwork, made in three color screen-printing by Jared Phillips (from the band T/N/V) and the Self Esteem studios in Columbus, Ohio, hometown of the newly-born label Lost Treasures of the Underworld.

my cat is an alien / valerio cosi - stories from the vacuum- black horizons – 7" - 7$
A truly ethereal pairing from Italy. While MCIAA has already established a massive offering in all formats, this 7"is Valerio's first vinyl appearance proper. His side is dominated by free jazz sax loops and trance vocals, with moments of twinkling percussion and electronic euphoria. An amalgamation of improv styles pulled off in a way only Valerio can. On the flip is a beautiful example of the lush guitar ambiance, wordless vocals, and alien space toy sound effects that the Opalio brothers are known for. Gold ink offset printing on metallic vellum, clear vinyl with gold ink on white pro-printed labels. Edition of 500.

mythical beast / cloudland canyon - split - nnf - 12" - 12$
This fair pairing has been in the wings for a few years now by our count, but tripped things come to those who wait, so better late-as-shit than never. Cloudland Canyon have been spanning geographies (Brooklyn, Germany, Memphis) and genres (krautrock, drone, psych-pop) since at least 2002, but only recently has their technological studio-sorcery began to gather steam and affect the more far-flung populations (powered in no small part by their partnership with Kranky Records). Anyone who's gotten lost in CC's latest, Lie In Light, knows this duo is currently at the pinnacle of their potency, and their offering here ("Harvest Hunt") is a fantastic mechanical motorik ascent into symphonic hypnosis. Comparisons to classic Teutonic psych outfits of yesteryear are warranted but inadequate: this is music of today, for tomorrow. On the flip, beloved Not Not Fun in-laws Mythical Beast return to the vinyl spotlight with two luminous soul meditations conjured during the past winter's grey maze of days. Both ballads burn with Corinne's voice-for-the-voiceless defiance, wind-draped and incensed by Jeremiah and Aaron's subtle electric string energies. Naked music for open spaces, empty skies, endless nights. High-audio 45 RPM LPs (NNF's first!) in matte-jackets with cloud-skull artwork by Blackblack beauty Diva Dompe. Edition of 415.

n.213 is the godchild of the inimitable nic hughes. most are probably more familiar with the band he plays guitar & sings for: shearing pinx. but his solo digs never disappoint. jolting bursts of electronic mayhem laced with pcp-inflected vocal incantations make "vexaction" a hypnotic & catchy carnival ride. blitzkrieged pop elements even make an appearance, but these short & noisy bones are nothing but the sweetest candy for the noiseniks in all of us. the weapons used range from drum machines, keyboards, reel-to-reels, & guitars to shakers, bells, trumpets, pedals, and more. it's a virtuoso circus of all that is juicy.

"Mouth" gave me visions of Phil Todd circumnavigating the globe, skimming over the clouds in a silver glider before swooping down and busting through the Earth's crust to body-board recklessly on subterranean rivers of lava. I doubt that was what Ashtray Navigations had in mind but it's a nice image. 20 minutes of dense warped outer-space sound and buried ecstatic guitar heroics.

41 minutes of live,meditative,percussion-based compositions/improvisations by Pascal Nichols. Cover design by Dean Sullivan/AEIOU , Time & Space insert by rebel theorist Glen Jones.70 numbered copies available (5 Euros). "Sounding like a Post skunk rehab version of The Skaters, albeit sweated down to one man, "Glandulord" rattles the roof. Refusing to balance on the raw seesaw of sounds used, bowed drones and looped vocals might reveal a few similarities to other underground acts but Neon Tempal aren't easily pigeonholed. "Magnator" covers all the bases with textures, explosions and actual rhythms all generating energy. Some of the bell and metal pieces resemble a kind of urban dawn chorus with the sparks as dew. The aluminium rattle moving between wild eyed battery and a musical swell. 2 features a number of brief musical interludes that are heavy on light bell work and unidentified rustle. In their length they reveal an artist not stuck on the idea of twenty minute jams to get something across to the audience." (brainwashed.com)

nether dawn - outer dark - celebrate psi phenomenon – cd – 12.99 $
Filthy, ragged, drone-damage from the mastermind behind the insanely credible Pseudoarcana label, and recently crowned third member of Black Boned Angel. Crackle and smoldering fuzz turn over and over on itself at ever more terrifying pace until everything within its gravitational grasp begins to smell of burning plastic. Frightening, shamanic, and dare-I-suggest BLUESY (think Fushitsusha not Gary Moore!) yet set within a down-on-the-farm, Antipodean, post-Xpressway context. The future of drone. The future of rock. The future of goddamn everything!

the nether dawn - whiskey mute-down - last visible dog – cd – 10$
Antony Milton's take on NZ free-noise & drone, but like all other things, Milton never imitates but reinterprets. Instead of just another album of low-fi guitar hum (don't we have enough already?), this is a warm, moody drifter that wraps around your head like a short-wave broadcast at 3AM.

the nether dawn - long shadow of a dream- students of decay – cd – 11$
The Nether Dawn is arguably the most narcotic, most ethereal
of the many guises of the ever-prolific and talented Antony Milton.
For the unfamiliar few, Milton runs the sainted Pseudoarcana
label out of his native New Zealand and records as Myrtu!, A.M.,
Paintings of Windows, Clay Man in the Well, Swagger Jack and
as a member of Claypipe, With Throats as Fine as Needles,
The Stumps, Glory Fckn Sun and more. Running through all of
his projects is something of a dreamlike, nostalgic delirium
that is concretized and distilled on "Long Shadow of a Dream."
The recordings on "Long Shadow of a Dream" date from 2004-2006.
Despite this temporal span they seem like they've emerged organically
from the same eternal, humming tapestry of sound. The album's final
track is, unquestionably, its apex and it contains what are perhaps the
most soul-baring, cathartic moments which Milton has committed to
tape. Here, Antony's vision becomes nearly visible in its mammoth
totality - howling whisps of feedback, billows of keyboard and loops
conjoin with voice and throat in ecstatic communion. The aural landscape
of Milton's Nether Dawn will utterly entrance and beguile you
and, in the end, it will surely devour you whole.

nihilist project - plough plays - barl fire - cdr - 11$
The Nihil Project is an open collective devoted to psychedelia, musical experimentation and artistic avantgarde who have released two albums to date. They are based on a core duo of Antonello Cresti and Andrea Gianessi from Italy. They collaborate with a wide range of artists and on this album have worked with a number of musicians from Britain such as the ex-Blossom Toes Brian Godding, Sedayne, The Anvil, Gav Dunn, The Kitchen Cynics, Orph and LSD from Electronic Voice Phenomena and Simon Lewis of The Phoenix Cube. The album title comes from our shared love of the informal, rough plough plays in January still performed in the East Midlands. Performers drawn from the population, hidden by guises telling ancient scripts they cannot know the primitive sources of. We couldn't imagine a more fitting concept. On this album they focus on British folk music and folklore interweaving their own songs and lyrics with traditional sources. The band is fascinated by folklore and folk customs, Antonello visits the UK regularly and has written a book about England and Wales. So they are well placed to make an album almost custom designed to appeal to all psychedelic folk fans.

Improvisation, over time, yields access to substratum vistas of altogether unseen colouration. This is characteristic of a place in which our music occurs. It may be heard simultaneously here on earth, it may be heard now in the future in surround-sound, DVD audio, via light pipe, etc. But due to its place of origin, it reaches us here without translation, solely as echoes sounding from an immaterial world. Not unlike the radio dish tuned into Space, hoping to catch some intergalactic communique, we’ve assumed responsibility for broadcasting the atmosphere surrounding the other intelligences combined among us.

g lucas crane. the breakdancer. g lucas crane. the tapemanipulator. g lucas crane. the new york city guide. g lucas crane brings us a 60 minutes roundtrip of weird fidelities and strange sounds. i enclose what the mind of lucas communicated me through resonating electric wires. i wrote down this given information using the technique of automatic writing: "its tape one in the goblin universe series. the rare zero tape is the only tape to survive the arson of rozwell labs 2029. it was one of 6, the rare one through rare 6 were all holding sound patterns corresponding to analysis levels, the audio detritus left over from mental examinations. the exposure to these tapes responds to latent interdimentional experiances, womb style, aeomeba style. the silver disk is the symbol of the gobiln universe and altered opened mind in general. its yer "classic" unidentified flying object. a smooth, silver disk that turns pink red orange hues when its about to punch through off into the multiverse. apparently, it also turns blueish purpleish when landing. awesome mode! anyway. the rare zero tape survived and was taken to the quarentine site in los alamos NV, approching the rare zero tape causes an audiable "swarm of bees" sound to increase in anger and intensity the closer one gets. touching the rare zero tape with skin causes negative aura proxisms and results in instant death. listening to the rare zero tape does not kill, just touching the original. a military robot was charged with dubing the master and sending it to you. it is the sound of perliminary examination. the further 6 levels have been lost. good god."

Sometimes you're just a little bit of a hermit. Holed up in your fortress. All the clocks are wrong and the sky is gray so you never have any idea what time it is. Evening or morning? Will it get lighter or darker? Does it matter? A thick foggy haze of magnetic tape pours out your eyes and you can't help but get tangled up inside of them. G. Lucas Crane (1/4th of Vanishing Voice & 1/2 of Time Life) has done it again with an absolute EPIC tape hallucination masterpiece. Two and a third panel fold out castle painting by GLC with grey felt castle edged tapes. Limited to 50.

Besides being like my favo[u]rite "bands," and both having h-o-r-s-e in succession, in their "band" names, these dudes have pretty much nothing in common. This thematic unification, though, I promise, won't dissappoint. G. Lucas Crane (moniker, here, Non-Horse) is a straight up musical magician, an avid sound collector that doesn't just let his collection sit on a shelf and gather dust, but rather, puts in all together totally mysteriously and creates a sound that words honestly can't really capture (total honesty, no cliches here, dudes); the twenty minute totally live and totally "worth the eight hour drive." Flip this C40 over and your pretty much in a polar universe; these So-Cal teens Horse Head can pretty much put anyone in a good mood with their anomalous aria intertwined with those memorable down-tempo beats, yr sure to wish you were chilled out with these dudes bathing in the sun. nonhorse - haraam circle of flame - release the bats – cd – 11$
Nonhorse is the solo act of Gabriel Lucas Crane from Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice and this is his debut album. On Haraam, piles of mysterious old cassettes are used as source material to create magic in a stunning way over 42 moody minutes. Different audio fragments on top of each other, over and over again, hand-mixed and orchestrated at what feels like must have been ritualistic tape laborations taken place somewhere where the sun never shines. Various echoes from the past are buried under layers and layers of manipulated voices, train signals, animal sounds and god knows what. Abrupt endings which burns like fire in your head. Churches in flames, the soundtrack to The House With The Laughing Windows played backwards, alien autopsys, cemetery fog, total devestation... Haraam is a beautiful junkyard nightmare, a horrifying and atmospheric album. 13 songs. Mastered by Pete Swanson.

the north sea - submarine museum - stunned records - cass - 6$
"For lack of a better word: woah. Brad Rose is back at the helm of his ever-welcome, shapeshifting solo guise The North Sea. Submarine Museum is a continuous 33 minute cassette side depicting a sonic mandala riddled with points of desperate beauty and feedbacked death throe. The first two-thirds of the guitar based piece flows from humble pulses into a squall of the vertical blood-quickening sort. But that’s precisely where the atmosphere’s glowing membrane is pierced, letting through a sharp bodhi light of release and penultimate peace for the final third of the journey. Catch breath. Repeat. Limited to 80 pro-dubbed cassettes with color inserts housed in hand-crocheted cases by Myste French."

north sea - in the time of the sugar pines - new american folk hero – cdr – 10$
In the burgeoning underground psych, folk, and noise movement, The
North Sea ís Brad Rose serves as both one of its biggest champions and
contributors. His Digitalis Industries imprint, 160+ release strong
Foxglove CDR series, and Foxy Digitalis online magazine have not just
pushed forward but unearthed many unknown, remote artists in the genre
and helped create and extend the community. Brad has been making his
own music since the mid 90s and has been a member of such bands as the
Juniper Meadows, the Golden Oaks, and the Cone Bearers. The North Sea
is his solo experimental / ambient / improvisational folk music
project and, like much of the folk music in the movement, looks to
bring together the style of folk music with the feeling, sound, and
aura of nature. In this project, Rose mixes nature field recordings -
birds, air and leaves - with a wide variety of stringed instruments.
In the Times of the Sugar Pines stands as Brad's last predominantly
folk recording under The North Sea name as he continues to search and
expand his sound into more abstract realms. This exploration can be
heard on the album as the sound carries a more ethnic European feel on
several tracks, bringing out darker tones and more impassioned
playing, creating a wonderful bridge between his old sound and new.

marconi notaro - no sub reino dos metazoarios - time lag
records -lp- 25$
cd sold out
"first ever reissue of this totally brilliant post-satwa 1973 brazilian private press featuring the core trio lula côrtes, marconi notaro & zé ramalho. recorded just months after lula & lailson had released satwa, lula was back in the same recife studio with poet and friend marconi notaro to lay down another equally magical album. zé ramalho, who would go on to record the paéberu 2lp with lula two years later, makes his recording debut here as well... somehow amidst the harsh government restrictions of 70s brazil, lula côrtes and his group of artist friends had managed to bypass the authorities and create a hugely creative micro-world of their own, recording, producing, and releasing this album with complete independence. no small feat in and of itself, no doubt, but the music is what makes this slab a true lost masterpiece... the whole album gushes forth with a sun baked spirit of the highest level, mixing tropicalia tinged folk-beat groovers, satwa style bliss trance ragas, paébiru favored lysergic jungle psych, and even a raging fuzz/wah soaked garage psych rocker. extremely mind melting from start to finish, with huge washes of rippling tape delay, electric & acoustic guitars, 12 string, tranced folk percussion, passionate yet mellow vocals, liquid electric bass, acid effects everywhere, and of course lulas mercurial & heart melting tricórdio (an instrument he made himself, something like a sitar/dulcimer hybrid). beautiful, melancholy and joyous all at the same moment, this is an album that after 33 years still sounds completely fresh & unique... sadly marconi passed away in 2000 having lived a life of obscurity even in his own town, yet leaving behind 7 published books of poetry and this stunning, lone album. this reissue has been authorized by maconis daughter and lula córtes to insure they receive the credit and funds they deserve, even if it comes 3 decades late... fully reproduced original art, featuring beautiful drawings by lula & layout by katia. heavy weight, old style, laminated gatefold covers. pressed on 180gm virgin vinyl. original label art. plus a huge full color 4 page insert featuring fully translated original notes, rare photos and book covers, marconis last poem written the day before his death, and extensive new notes & biography by lula córtes. vinyl version limited to 1000 copies."

Matt Mcdowell (Portland, Oregon) was a former member of Arco Flute Foundation. He currently plays with Brave Priest, The Amazing Trapeze and releases many duo recordings with Mike Tamburo. Before recording The Signal, Mcdowell spent the better part of 3 weeks staring closed eyes at the sun, flickering his fingers in front of his eyes, making predictions of the coming apocalypse and then recorded this as its soundtrack, Mcdowell delivers one of the most brutal guitar recordings these ears have heard.

oakwhistle - parish of unwelcome insurance - sharks & pfennings –cass - 8$
First release from Lied Music’s John W. Fail under the Oakwhistle name, showcasing a heavily tape-damaged approach to his instrumentation (viola, israj and other strings). The extended piece on side one finds scratchy strings melting via reel-to-reel disfigurement, sounding like a decaying hymn from 100 years ago while buried under a torrent of tape static. Side two consists of three short pieces, featuring spacious cello pluckings, variable-speed tape symphonies and zombie bluegrass. A C-30 cassette, which emphasizes the hissy, lo-fi nature of these pieces.

pauline oliveros & reynols - minexico - roartorio - lp - 12$
0ne of the most unexpected yet fruitful partnerships of recent years: in the mid-1990s, Pauline Oliveros, electronic music pioneer and sage of the environmental-drone, began working with Reynols, the prolific and resolutely undefinable Argentinian group. Their first joint effort sent Oliveros' music through the rigours of Reynols' heavily processed studio treatments; THE MINEXCIO CONNECTION: LIVE! AT THE ROSENDALE CAFE finds them collaborating on-stage in real time. Recorded in August 2000 during Reynols' first trek through North America, they offered up a version of "Six For New Time" (originally composed by Oliveros for Sonic Youth's GOODBYE 20th CENTURY LP), along with idiosyncratic throat-singing and hypnotic dream/dronescapes. The venue may have been a small cafe in rustic upstate New York, but the sonic results sound like emanations from the deepest of Deep Listening caves under the earth

oubliette - italian gore - release the bats – cass – 6$
Spliced cassette madness from Georgia, USA. In search of the true audio essence of the golden era of the Italian horror, Oubliette here gives us Italian Gore! Filthy fragments from a range of the more trashy zombie flicks (Burial Ground and Zombi 3, 4, 5, anyone?). You may be to young to have been around in the days of the Video Nasties, banned home videos, Studio S and Strong Uncut VHS releases from Vipco but if you have the slightest interest in the Italian horror genre, you will get tears in your eyes when listening to this! This is all about the spirit of being 14 all over again and the excitement of watching Giovanni Lombardo Radice being drilled in the head in City Of The Living Dead for the first time or dropping your jaw to the ending in Nightmare City, or scoring an uncut copy of Anthropophagous, or trying to figure out what the hell is going on in a foggy VHS-dub of A Lizard In A Womans Skin, or... A true labour of love. Gross, harsh and disgusting. Originally released as a cd-r on Turgid Animal. Previous Oubliette releases out on Hanson, Audiobot, RRR, No Horse Shit etc. Limited to 40

fabio orsi - find electronica - a silent place - cd - 14$
L"In only two years of work Fabio Orsi has achieved critique and fans, imposing his name as one of the most promising and representative of the entire Italian independent scene. A drift began with the excellent vinyl LP "Osci" (SmallVoices 2005), followed by the famous split CD "For Alan Lomax" (A Silent Place, 2006) together with Italian My Cat is an Alien and a couple of cooperations with Gianluca Becuzzi: "Muddy Speaking Ghosts Through My Machines" (A Silent Place 2006) e "The Stones Know Everything" (Digitalis Industries 2007). Today, as final confirmation of his talent, A Silent Place is proud to present this new Fabio Orsi solo. "Find Electronica" is a wonderful album finely full of lyric, structured as a long drone/ambient suite divided in two portions which are the frames of the articulated central track. A strictly personal exercise on the "Weird Folk" theme, hypnotic and seductive. The "found" electronica meets the humoral sonorities made by the six chords, projecting enchanted landscapes on a vibrant horizon, with an intimate sensibility. Abstract and emotional, deep and dreamy, "Find Electronica" is a great album: an essential step in the ascending Fabio's career. Another great/small gem from that "silent place" in the deep Italian South."

fabio orsi - osci - small voices - lp - 18$
SmallVoices is happy to present a new Italian promising artist: Fabio Orsi. 'Osci' is a two long tracks album (remixed by Gianluca Becuzzi/Kinetix) of ambient drone music, field recordings and experimental melancholic soundcapes... Using processed folk music parts (taken during folkloristic festivals, typical of the Apulian folk tradition), Fabio creates a dreaming atmosphere crossing between balls and bellows, silence and spirituality, everyday life: at home, in a church, in the countryside, at the small-town feast. All these sounds mixed and processed through digital machines: an encounter between modernism and tradition. Image a sort of mixture between Alio Die's ambient works, William Basinski's melancholia, Phil Niblock's experimentalism.
Fabio Orsi plays: guitars, samples, field recordings, laptop.
The black heavy weight vinyl was packaged in an elegant sleeve and including 3 postcards.
