In a series of 3 c20's Marcel Turkowsky (man behind Cones, a player in Datashock and who just recently did the sound for La-Monte Young student Arnold Dreyblatt at a show in berlin) and Andrew Cvar (ex Jackie-o Motherfucker) unravel new territories in their expanding UUHUU universe. With a previous release on Tape Tektoniks and numerous self-releases Andrew and Marcel are back in full force surfing waves of some of the very best parallel sound layers out there, almost industrial in their sound but still suprisingly jungle-like, lively, organic, trancendental and constantly blooming.

Peppermint Birdhouse Tea Shanty Shack is Uke’s second full length release with more true GUTTER COUNTRY originals about food, animals, friends and Fambly.
Electro acoustic guitars are plunked by bumbling fingers to the tune of a shrill yet comforting troubadourish croon, but the real treat of this effort lies in the accompaniment, all played by a rotating cast band. Recorded all analog onto 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch tape.

unchained - problems – beyond repair records – cass - 9$
I cannot believe this, Unchained is such a chiller dude.. in 2005 he put together these amazing tracks which will come to you like an endless vararity of refreshments.
Its like this; you've just realised that while you were sleeping late cos of last nights partying Nate(Unchained) got up earlier to mix a lovely fruit salad and picked up fresh bread from the italian bakery. He is getting ready to jam a bit and the weather is really really good and hot, it might turn a bit rainy but in a good summer-rain way where it will pass really quick and the whole thing is really cool. The sunbeams are coming through the windows filling the room with an awesome light. Eventually the tape runs out and the two of you decide to hit the streets hanging out in the cool shade drinking ice-cold lemonade.
I cannot believe this release, it's so freaking awesome.
Comes with full color artwork by Nate and yellow tapes with pro print.

Usputuspud - disco - caligulan - cass - 7$
Usputuspud is the solo tone-drift of Matthew J Rogers, whom, when not caterwauling as the guitard-god in Crucial Blasters Wildildlife, makes some truly blissed-out tape tide pools. Harmonica swells processed through banks of cloud hiss, then rained into the reverb bubbles off the LEFT COAST, and strewn along the California shores like wet dreams of driftwood!! All anchored by an ebbing pulse of minimal beeps of beats. Total San Francissy spun pysch inflection, but not of the boring guitar-that-wants-to-be-a-sitar, lotus-eating, lyrics full of meta-ph(f)aux kind you've been hearing too much about. No, what we have here (hear!) is the hum of Posedion, loner drives down 101, sweat and sunglasses. A Tr00 Sunny-Delite!! Bryon and Thurston just gave their grizzly snouts a nod towards the U-Pud in the recent edition of BULL TONGUE. Packaged with photos of Matticus emerging from the swirls of the Alter-Beach, bearing gifts of course.

uton - straight edge- dekorder – lp – 18$
"Straight Edge XXS" is the 2nd vinyl album by Finland's Uton released in a strictly limited edition of 500 copies on the Dekorder label. It comes in a gorgeous full-colour collage sleeve assembled by Hirvonen himself.
While Uton's last Dekorder album "Alitaju Ylimina" (and most of his other recorded works respectively) are hazy lo-fi drone masterpieces for the most part, this is a completely diffferent affair. Recorded straight to tape within one month, right after returning from a 6-month trip to India, these songs (if you could call them songs) are completely out-of-this-world; very short and crazed sketch-like pieces sounding like a Nonesuch Explorer LP of long lost field recordings from an as yet unexplored continent. Or is it World Music from an unknown planet recorded by those Sublime Frequencies guys from mysterious short wave transmissions?
Well, it is all that and more. It is pure ecstatic expression channelized through Psychedelia, Free Jazz, Noise and rural ancient Folk Music from all over the world in a completely naked, predominantly acoustic setting. One of the purest forms of music you could imagine; while all the familiar Uton elements remain evident in a hazy backcloth.
Uton is the one-man project of Jani Hirvonen originally hailing from Tampere. Hirvonen is one of the most active musicians of the Finnish underground scene that has recently presented us the likes of Kuupuu, Kemialliset Ystävät, Islaja, Paavoharju and Lau Nau and a seemingly never-ending stream of beautiful and highly original record releases.
Uton has previously released dozens of CD's, CD-R's and Cassettes on a myriad of labels including Jewelled Antler, Pseudo Arcana, Last Visible Dog, Digitalis, Ruralfauna and his own Ikuisuus. He has collaborated with Amon Dude (Avarus), Anla Courtis (Reynols), Antony Milton (Black Boned Angel), Ben Reynolds, Peter Wright, Phil Todd (Ashtray Navigations) and Jan Anderzen (Tomutonttu, Kemialliset Ystävät) among others. The latter collaboration (under the Hevoset moniker) is released on LP by Dekorder simultaneously.

In September 2005 Antony Milton shared a van with the band '6Majik9' (of the Musicyourmindwillloveyou collective) on a mortifyingly hairy psychedelic road trip from Sydney to Kyogle up Australias east coast. Distance 900 km. The van was crammed to the gunwales with musical instruments, sleeping bags, sweating food, and stoned musicians. There was also a taperecorder...

loud from turku, finland, ville run the curious harha-askel label. he releases numberous things on the pretty good barl fire, foxglove and 267 lattajjaa, many compilation contributions and doing a collaboration with brad rose in the excellent 'autumn galaxy' project. he offer us ten new songs of mixing minimalist and repetitive electronics treatments, guitar, jew's harp, toy melodica and flutes playing. his more electronics effort at the frontier of granular/lunar subtleties "almost" electronic-a in the precious glitch on certain pieces and of the organic drone/folk of the deep finnish forest. the winter continues us. this chamanic ghostly voices transport us in beyond. the mysterious bells, flutes and percussions resound and transcend us in the too ignored wind of desolation. a voodoo experience. the reality is : "my death isn't extraordinary, and no one should feel sorry for me, for thousands fall every day..." - robert wichitz -

well, here you have it. maine's cosmic mystery trio captured in vinyl for eternity, just for you… while everyone & their mother seems to have some sort of bedroom folk/psych project going these days, you'd be hard pressed to find another unit as pure in spirit & process as these here bodies/buddies. one of those rare vortexes of creation existing totally apart from all hype, pressure or pretense; in other words, timeless. always balanced on that fine and beautiful line between cosmic joke & aching depth. a simple & unadorned unfurling of strummed & fingered instruments, heartaching female vocals, woodland creatures, earthy male vocals, contrasting half written & totally spontaneous songs, twisting lyrics, haunted melancholy, lysergic joy, and a heavy dose of spooked new england lore. in a way, the recording scene itself is an almost perfect parallel to the sounds & vibes captured here: three shadowy figures laugh & sing around a dim campfire. no ones slept in days. they're nestled amidst ancient stone buildings, creeping foliage, and mounds of exotic flowers. the sun is setting over the mountains. but its all frozen in time. the clouds aren't moving. and that campfire, it's a microphone, isn't it? and all those flowers: plastic. the stone: paint. is it all fake? well, it is an ancient stone church. and those three really are making some very sweet sounds. in fact, its almost hyper real. almost impossibly so… is that reel-to-reel rolling? yes, it sure is… exquisitely packaged with a fold out double thick duotone art paper cover. outside is white paper with edge to edge antique letterpress printed eyeball melting hyper detailed art by the band. inside is black paper with red/orange screen printing. 180gm virgin vinyl. numbered edition of 500 copies. zero info of course, but take a peak at the cover in total darkness for a special surprise!

Reticent to Manifest was made on a cold summer's night in Los Angeles... High on salsa verde and the thick brown air, three men went in and one long string of sound came out. (VxPxC) has been known for pulling some legs and some hair in the past, but this tape is the start of a very long apology of sorts... a way to say "Hey, we like music too... maybe just not the same stuff as you, but you know..." In the past two years, (VxPxC) has grown from a Golden State oddity to a Los Angeles institution. There's never a dirth of new ideas flowing out of their collective minds, and on "Porchmass," their first proper CD release after a slew of CDRs and cassettes, they push the envelope into a whole new realm.

These are the sounds of desolation. Imagery of a sweltering, barren desert comes to mind. Riding a dying camel, with an empty canteen dangling from your neck, the future seems bleak. You notice a glimmer on the horizon. Hope is momentarily restored. Warmth (aka Steev Thompson) evokes this type of scenario with his latest release. Before it's over, he gives you one last taste of hope before laying you down for eternal rest. The ever elusive paradise we've all been looking for. Now gone, just as quick as it arrived. There is no hope. Only Warmth.

warmth - leave you wet brain in the hot sun - digitalis - cd -12$
Warmth has undergrone plastic surgery since this album was originally released as a criminally limited CDR on Belgium's best scuzz label, Audiobot. Back then Warmth was known as Roxanne Jean Polise. The name may have changed, but the sounds are still the same dense electronic forest fog that set Michigan-native Steev Thompson's music apart from most of his compatriots. "Leave Your Wet Brain in the Hot Sun" is Warmth's finest hour. It's his hypnotic, marrow-sucking opus.

warmth – arbor - lp – 12$
Even though Warmth main man Steev Thompson still appears to be incommunicado totally epic recordings continue to surface. Before Roxanne Jean Police was officially over and Steev still lived in Chicago, he joined up with another then Chicago resident Branden Diven of Quilts/American Grizzly Records. The jams that were created filled a couple of cdrs and the Warmth side of the split with Quintana Roo on Not Not Fun. This LP consists of a remixed and edited version of the original cdr running at just under 45 minutes. Forgotten smog floats through a Northside basement. Sounds emanate but their source is totally unrecognizable. Quiet growing tonal blobs erupt into washes of aural color. A complete union of samplers, synths, vocals, guitar, organs, percussion, and electronics merge to create the sounds contained within; a loss of individual existence. Completely serene. In an edition of 300 LPs on creamy yellow vinyl with hand stamped labels in pro-printed and screened fold over sleeves with art by Roy Tatum and an insert by Steev.

We were crazy about the music of Kurt Weisman from the first second we heard it. You can Google at least two or three examples of us publicly gushing over “Past The Moon,” one of Kurt’s songs played with his band Feathers. It’s probably our single favorite song of last year. Needless to say we are overjoyed to release Kurt’s debut on vinyl, following an excellent self-released CD-R. Possessed with the rare talent of writing tunes that are at once whimsical and strangely ominous, Kurt’s music is reverential without being anachronistic. His solo work is even more far-reaching, adding electronic elements without sacrificing the charisma and charm inherent to the songs. While somewhat poppier than his work with Feathers, don’t worry - Kurt’s solo vinyl debut is just as possessed with the spirits of Canterbury. Fans of Les Maledictus Sound’s cut up / collage work, (not to mention their affinity for speeding up vocals) will be delighted, as will those who can’t understand why the Beach Boys didn’t make “Vegetables” a sidelong jam. Elsewhere, Kurt conjures Comus as remixed by Otto Von Schirach. He also writes some of the most compelling melodies we’ve heard in a long time – timeless, beautiful ones. Remember the feeling you got when you were a kid and you first saw that last scene in Over The Edge, where they play Valerie Carter‘s version of “Ooh Child” as the kids head off to juvie? Kurt’s single gives you that kinda feeling. Your life totally needs this

regularity; the sticky dense distortion most likely liquidates the

wild gunmen –end ov the world -mad monk–cdr – 12$
We're pretty thrilled to offer up the third volume in this series of CDRs by Wild Gunmen. End Ov the World is our favorite of the bunch, because it offers the expected - chaotic wastoid jams, cacaphonous raging, and crude acoustic punk ditties - along with the entirely unexpected - essentially, the album's untitled 12 minute closer, which is by far the best thing the band has ever done. "12" is a monstrous piece of low bass tones, disembodied vocal samples, ominous cascading noise, spooky backward effects, and singer Kristy's deadpan voice (sample lyric: "I hate being raped every day / every day that I live I am raped / Everybody rapes me every day / do you know what it's like to be raped every day?"). Scary shit. This track is unlike anything else in the WG discography, sounding like a cross between Consumer Electronics' Teenage Nuremberg and "Revolution 9" for a post-Mullholland Drive world. There are other highlights as well, like the Godz-style punk of "Up Your Ass" (featuring rare lead vocals by either Ron or Witt), and a nearly lucid cover of "Folsom Prison Blues," complete with train whistle sound effects. Elsewhere, banjos collide with saxophones, guitars feed back mercilessly against found audio, chaos reigns. If you're new to Wild Gunmen, this is the place to start.

The Wire Thicket. -s/t –pseudo arcana– cdr – 11$
The Wire Thicket is the swirling shimmering US power-drone duo of Alex Cobb (Taiga Remains/ Students of Decay label) and David Kirby.
Processed acoustic(!) guitars and voice etc are layered and sculpted to construct dense spine-tinglingly intense edifaces
that soar ecstatically high above the plebian mire.
The best of this disk is reminiscent of Simon Wickham Smiths great tearing epic 'Katotohanan' (from Dyro), and the more God-fearing of Birchvilles bliss explosions.

wire thicket - dust, static - students of decay –– 3" cd –6$
In describing the debut Wire Thicket album, released on Pseudoarcana in 2006,
Antony Milton applied to the duo the term "power-drone." On their second outing,
the pair have fully embraced this label and taken it to new, delirious peaks. The
title track is a fifteen minute blast of singing, celestial metal; an impassioned,
deeply meditative flight into the starry night conjured from guitar, electronics and
field recordings. Characteristic of the duo's prior work together, the piece is an
excercise in accretion -- with layers and layers of meticulously detailed sound
arranged into a furious, beautiful blanket of howling drone. Emerging from
the tonal rubble is a second, shorter piece: a reworking of Taiga Remains'
"Brilliant Dead Highways" (a piece featured previously on a split 7'' with CJA) -
akin to a delicate, drifting calm at the end of an immense storn.

with throats as fine as needles - digitalis / students of decay -cd -12$
Deep inside an abandoned bunker on New Zealand's north island, With Throats as Fine as Needles have perfected their craft. On this, their debut CD release, the group has expanded to a quartet. Birchville Cat Motel's Campell Kneale and Pseudoarcana chief, Antony Milton, have joined forces with James Kirk (Sandoz Lab Technicians, Gate) and Richard Francis (Eso Steel) to create a claustrophobic, organic web of massive drones. Everything on this CD was recorded outdoors with battery-powered instruments. Underneath the ground, the quartet burrows out their own cavern, bouncing sounds off the walls until it becomes a singular, solid mass. Each gently sculpted tone floats in humid air. The music is saturated with the dirt and grime from a million a years of human history, wailing out in unison like an excavation turned exorcism. With Throats as Fine as Needles are your guides through this aural fog.

wolf tracks / end springs - peace paws - nnf - cass - 7$
Even though most bands sing and ALL bands have songs, the "singer-songwriter" vibe still makes us barf. Hard. Which is what's so rare/special about these two United Kingdom acousticks. Both fingerpick into pensive drift zones and solitary mumble rumination, but neither steps near the shit poet pulpit of fake public heartbreak. The End Springs spins six-string patterns like spider webs, all quiet bossa-nova wanderings and neo-Fahey dusty landscapes, spruced with poignant sunrise/sunset delay and subtle sampled naturalism. Total tranquility base. The Wolf Tracks hunts a more feral, wall-of-the-wild vein. Clawed guitar leads and chord organ drones collide with forest-wind flutes and hairy wolfpack percussion clatter while vague voices mutter in the dirt. Campfire songs for after the fire goes out. Hand-stenciled and twine-tied with a talisman of palm tree-shrapnel. (not not fun)

peter wright - at last a new dawn- students of decay – 2xcd – 18$
"At Last a New Dawn" is a double disc set of truly epic proportions. It constitutes
the first new recordings by Peter Wright released to CD since 2004's "Yellow
Horizon," and is, without a doubt, a radiant high point, perhaps even the
pinnacle, of his distinguished and exceptional discography. All of the familiar
and wonderous Wright touchstones are present here in pristine form: a wealth
of gorgeous, ghostly guitar drones and swells, and impeccably employed
field recordings from manifold fascinating sources. Also worth noting is the
emergence of some slightly harsher sounds found here, a divergence from the
traditionally pastoral nature of much of Wright's catalog. This is reflective of
Peter's current live setup, which employs increased overdrive and distortion.
The album's title is, Peter asserts, a 'vauge reference to undying optimism in the
face of gloom.' Many of the track titles too reflect a contemplation of death, pain,
loss and tragedy. In fact, one of the tracks, 'Blue Light District,' was recorded on
July 7th, 2005, the morning of the London terrorist attacks, its title referencing the
rash of emergency vehicles swarming throughout the city in the wake of the violence.
This is the sound of misery and death, and ultimately, of hope and redemption.

The 2nd trk was recorded in Aberdeen and features feed back loops and delayed strumming patterns that get more and more intense until they reach a truely spinetingling crescendo.
Essential!

peter wright -yellow horizons –pseudo arcana– cd – 14$
New Zealand guitarist and sound-artist Peter Wrights back catalogue stretches to something like 30 releases over the last dozen years. 'Yellow Horizons' is the most recent of these and follows on from 2004's 'Distant Bombs' (Last Visible Dog), and 'Desolation Beauty Violence' (Digitalis). This CD finds him relocated to dirty old London town from where he has written a series of love-drones to the wild South Island of his homeland.
Wrights guitar craft opens vistas that are as contemplative as they are emotionally engaging. Periods of preperatory silence awaken into long slow shifting drones; layered 'folk' patterns build to an almost psychotropic intensity before being subsumed once more within the drone... These scenes are as varied as the South Island itself. There are glaciers as well as sunburnt plains.

wyrm - aaf - black horizons – cass - 7$
Sparse is about the best adjective one could use to sum up this release from Allan Zane's Wyrm. Much is occupied by wind sound and silence, broken up by abrupt tones, repetitive treated industrial loops, slowly swirling electronic pools, and hollow vacuums, but somewhere hidden among all of this there is a joyous kind of beauty and celebration that will bring you back for repeated listens. Deluxe packaging, comes inside a jewelery box with a white feather, all silver paper with digital black printing for the paste on, insert, and a cross-shaped tape wrap that is tied up in a black ribbon. Stamped a-side labels by the artist, with b-side abstraction. Edition of 93 on hi-bias chrome tapes.

yellow swans - at all ends - weird forest - lp - 14$
At All Ends is the third major record in the Yellow Swans vast body of work. This record is an assured record of chiming drone and heady pelvic sky fuckery. New sounds emerge from the Yellow Swans camp that are more hushed, and whisper with the logic of deep space. Whereas the last record was a laser beam guided minimal transmission with dark overtones, this new release injects sonic clouds full of pink oxycontin. Guitar lines sketch out a melodic vision that stupifies with hypnotic repetition with layer upon layer of rich and dense guitar chug build into multi-orgasm songscapes that leave the loins sore and the mind spent. An exhausting journey into pleasure and single-mindedness. Elements of lush drone stretch the proceedings in vast strokes. Yellow Swans veer towards krautrock territory with this new record, and it will go down in the big books as their most beautiful and vibrant record thus far.

Its deeply meditative yet darkly disturbing and emotionally touching music. The LP, Zaïmphs vinyl debut, is pressed in a one-time edition of 525 copies on 180g vinyl with paste-on artwork on thick black jackets, full color 2-sided art paper insert, resealable plastic sleeve; etc

zaimph – arbor - 7" – 6$
In the past Marcia Bassett(of Double Leopards, GHQ) has proved her versaitility under the Zaimph name; from the depraved feedback and tone fury of her “Sexual Infinity” CD on Hospital Productions to her delicate electric guitar and vocals waves on the “Mirage of The Other” LP on Gypsy Sphinx. This untitled 7” release further proves this fact by recalling her earliest roots in the Siltbreeze band UN: vocal mantras and delicate strumming are placed over a hypnotically evolving base of looped piano, feedback, and strings. The end result is something beautiful that twists the lines of classification, picking up little points of reference from her past bands and laying out a path towards the future. In an edition of 500 7”s in proprinted full color foldover sleeves with art by Marcia. Mastered by Josh Stevenson.

zaimph – la nuit electrique– utech - cd –12$
Marcia Bassett (Double Leopards, Hototogisu) rears Zaimph's vile head once again on La Nuit Electrique. A raspy, delicate instrumental passage begins like a crippled music box. Elegant and soporose. Blackened guitar and amplification apprise the rest. Acrid feedback hangs in the air and vocal modulations clot inside dark rivers of current. The night electric.

zonderland - oidipus: motherfucker - self released – cdr – 12$
A new band, but with one person who we met before: Orphax' own Sietse is part of Zonderland, together with one Bart and Michel. There are no credits towards the instruments, but we hear drums, guitars and electronics (Orphax is known to play laptop, but who knows what else he has mastered?), but perhaps it's all pre-programmed on laptops? Who can tell in the digital age? A two hour session was recorded in a studio in Utrecht which was edited down to this one hour release in three lengthy pieces of music. There is an element of improvisation to be detected in this music - obviously, I should add - which could have perhaps needed a bit further trimming, but I must say hats off for this. Post rock may be well over its height but that should not stop people from creating music like that. Themselves give references to Godspeed, Subarachnoid Space, Tarentel and Arvo Part - who am I to add more names to that list. They took their references very well and play music that is very much alike that. Pieces are built up slowly and over the course of many minutes it grows and grows, like a cascading wave (the Godspeed approach I would call this), but then it breaks down as such as things started only to built new theme upon new theme. Head space music, post space rock, gravel noise or such things like. Dark, of course, but taken with all the right substances (more smoke than alcohol) you could easily be lost in this trip. I think Zonderland holds many promises and are perhaps unprecedented in The Netherlands. They should shop around for a real CD release and start touring: they can be big. (FdW)

zs - arms - gilgongo records - lp - 11$
Simultaneously complex and minimal, avant-garde
post-jazz compositionists, ZS new full length "Arms" offers nearly 50 minutes of insane new studio recordings.
"Brooklyn quartet Zs play the real hard, real minimal, real painstakingly worked-out rock etudes that kids with beards
and concentrated stares prick up their ears for. However, the real news is, this stuff actually does rock, though
perhaps not as ragingly as bands to who they're likely to be compared (Orthrelm, Don Caballero, Flying Luttenbachers).
It helps that I first heard Zs live: four guys (drums, guitar, guitar+keyboard, saxophone) seated facing each other,
sheet music and stand-lights illuminating some very focused faces, and playing stuff that pounded a lot more than you
might think given the monkish air of the room". - Dominique Leone / pitchforkmedia.com. Vinyl version of the new full
length studio recording, an initial run of 500 on opaque white.
