hands of sand - clay dreams - odomez serie #2 - nothing out there- cdr – 11$

The english sound artist Mark Peter Wright is the second contributor to the ongoing Odomez Serie here at NOTHINGoutTHERE, successfully following Robert Horton's effort last year.
Mark worked out of a package of Odomez goods I sent to him, and came out with a masterful, half-an-hour piece of inspired and fascinating musique concrète, infused with field recordings and musical events. An all the while deep, dense and optimistic voyage into Odomez' imaginary.
Here is what Hands Of Sand writes about this recording process :
"When the package arrived its contents seemed so dry, coughed up from a choked earth, staved of water, starved of life. This thirst and need for renewal became the central compositional focus – an overall cycle of water to stone, a journey from liquid to solid."
Odomez... it's a small town up north in France, inside which is located a huge and beautiful land of strangeness. Before 1965, it was a chemical-textile factory. After that, no one really knew. Like a quiet jungle of metal and plants. The Odomez Serie aims at keeping the memory of that place alive, now that it is doomed to demolition, and to call for musical and visual collaborations. Every artist contributing will be sent an artwork related to the place as an inspiration. More about Odomez here.
Clay Dream's artwork is a postcard from Odomez to you. Its mail envelope includes postcards with prints of my Temporary serie of photographies, and writings about Odomez (from the Sense-of-Place contributions and others). Last but not least, n.o.t.#6 also includes extended liner-notes by Hands Of Sand about his recording process.

our live soundtracks : maxime coton, half asleep, gart & seekatze, silencio & przewalski's horses- nothing out there- dvdr (audio) – 11$

Active for a year and a half in 2007, the collective from Brussels Dispersal has been kept up by a bunch of people who wanted to unite their efforts for creating an alternative for broadcasting their productions.

Dispersal's activities have been concentrated around several evening events of artistic matters, gathering some joyful crowds who were presented to all kinds of creations - video, live music, poetry, radio... During the first half of 2007, it was decided to focus the activities into more specific and less genre-crossing events, and five live soundtracks evenings have been organised. Half of them have been performed by members of the collective, the other by guests, and all were to choose a movie on which to improvise their music. Indeed though some very different musical artists have been invited to that same private apartement in Brussels, they were all linked by one fundamental musical factor : improvisation.

After that season was over, we were so happy, as much as with the quality of the shows as with the human encounters that they generated, that it was decided necessary to go on with our politics of broadcasting by creating this compilation, gathering all the recordings on to one single DVD-ROM, in high quality WAV format.

robert horton / egghatcher / constantin dubois - salts that have lost water - nothing out there- 3" cdr –10$ sold out

"A good starting point for the story of n.o.t.#2 would be when i heard that this place, a very special place to me, was at stake and would be eventually destroyed soon by the authorities. My first thought was : we have to create something out of this incredible land before it is too late, to be able to remind it when it will be gone.
Located in the north of France, this place has once been, almost half a century from now, a textile factory. But now, it is much more : a jungle of wild grass, concrete, dirt, glass, huge plants, rusted metals... a place like no other, completely disconnected from its first purpose, reminding its visitor of, from one point of view, a strange garden of Eden, and from another, of concentration camps.
I knew that Robert Horton was interested in decay, so i spoke to him about recording something about that place. He felt like he had to hear it ; so we went back with a microphone and a MD and recorded an hour of sound, walking around the big halls under a heavy rain. Robert liked the recording and very quickly got 20 minutes ready, using the sounds i sent him as a raw material." Edition of 50

polder / przewalski's horses- split - nothing out there / razzle dazzle - cdr – 12$ sold out

a split 5"CD-R, with 2x20mn improvisations, from the fresh bands Polder (Benjamin Laurent Aman, french artist from Berlin who runs the Razzle Dazzle imprint) and Przewalski's Horses (duo with a french artist & the n.o.t. belgian head).

Polder is cold and clinic like its name, and he comes here with a great 20mn of broken blues, like recorded by a blind old jack lost in a dead factory. Przewalski recorded in their country shelter, and turned everything rural weird, keeping in their minds the old folks in frozen east europa while grabbing their harmonica, acoustic guitars and loop station...

Artwork wise..... 40 different copies with handmade drawings/collages from the artists - they look like the mishaps of a hippy amazed in a dusty grey library.... A5 format + great looking black/red cd-rs.
