Egghatcher is the work of Bay Area free folk avant noisemaker Robert Horton, and features some of the most sublime drones we've heard created from some of the least likely sources. A helicopter flying overhead, crystal glasses, old 78's, all smeared and smoothed into soft slippery slivers of sound. So lovely. A few tracks are not as dronelike, one features vocals, chopped and reassembled into a skittery soundscapes, with occasional blasts of corrosive squeal, while another is constructed from and played on a homemade 4 string guitar constructed from wood found on the street (aquarius)

The fiddle is a bowed stringed instrument that is the highest member of the violin family, it has four strings and a hollow body and an unfretted fingerboard. Played with a bow the term fiddle refers to a violin when used in folk music.
After cdrs on Foxglove, Hal Hugues, long-time collaborator of Robert Horton (sound recorder on this release), played here with his wife Jill Kjömpedahl songs from our History. Covering tradional tunes from Ireland, Scotland, America but also from the Balkans, Albania (…) the duo deliver a rough interpretation and gives us some keys to understand today’s music.

North Sea is Brad Rose who runs the Digitalis label, and sounds like you might imagine, post-Fahey steel string dreaminess, strummy and lilting, lots of reverb, warm and glistening and quite lovely. Not sure who the heck the Rome Chell is, but they are a perfect match for the North Sea, exploring a similar sound, although their take on the post Appalachian free folk is much more subdued and murky, steel strings are strummed, but the result is a muted pulsing melody, warm waves of sound that sort of drift and hover.
