minn minn lights - - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$

Minn Minn Lights is the trio of Daniel Meyer Grønvold, Eirik Renton and Oivind Koppand Eriksen. Hailing from Oslo, Grønvold and Renton also perform together as electroacoustic improvisers Mi-Kydno and the energetic Banshee Howl. Minn Minn Lights finds the group expanding on small sounds, with controlled feedback and drones mixing with tapes and and prepared guitar. The disc is a delicate and rich document of Northern experimentalism.

the good anna - full of beans - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$

The Good Anna are Patrick Farmer and Graham Jones. Based in Nottingham, the duo has been performing everywhere lately, from late-night improv blowouts in the Midlands to North America (where they are embarking on a lengthy tour this summer). Instrumentally focused around Jones’ guitar and Farmer’s percussion, Full of Beans explores space both acoustic and physical, moving from quietly bowed ringing tones to spastic, clattering explosions

john w fail - icewhistle - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$

John W. Fail has turned up in a lot of places but on few recordings; this is the first release entirely under his own name, following an 8-project cassette compilation on Dronedisco last year. Most well-known as 1/2 of Lied Music, The Icewhistle finds Fail quietly scraping ghost overtones from his israj (the traditional Bengali instrument heard on Lied Music recordings). In eight minimal tracks, the sounds of air and urban ambiance mix with the israj to create a haunting, suspended soliloquy.

matt mcdowell - qunatum heresy - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$

Matt McDowell first came to notoriety as a member of the Arco Flute Foundation and has appeared in a variety of projects mostly emanating from his home of Portland, OR. The mystical energy of his West Coast surroundings comes forth in these four solo electric guitar pieces, recalling the density of Rhys Chatham and the velocity of Loren Mazzacane Connors (though filtered through his own phlegmatic vision).

oakwhistle - parish of unwelcome insurance - sharks & pfennings –cass - 8x$

First release from Lied Music’s John W. Fail under the Oakwhistle name, showcasing a heavily tape-damaged approach to his instrumentation (viola, israj and other strings). The extended piece on side one finds scratchy strings melting via reel-to-reel disfigurement, sounding like a decaying hymn from 100 years ago while buried under a torrent of tape static. Side two consists of three short pieces, featuring spacious cello pluckings, variable-speed tape symphonies and zombie bluegrass. A C-30 cassette, which emphasizes the hissy, lo-fi nature of these pieces.

ben reynolds / john w. fail - uncabineted - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$

Reynolds and John W. Fail collated several recordings to compile Uncabineted, covering the period between September 2005 (when they met) and March 2006. Reynolds work is well-documented on labels such as Ikuisuss, Memoirs of an Aesthete, Time-Lag and 267 Lattajjaa while Fail has dabbled in myriad projects including Lied Music, Intro to Pterodactyl and Land. Ranging from screaming acoustics to dirgy fuzzfests, the real document is that of experience, joy and camaraderie.

ben reynolds / john w. fail - uncabineted’ duo II - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$

The follow up to last year’s Uncabineted collaboration was recorded in preparation for an appearance at the Hard Gaan festival in Belgium and Holland last October. Fail’s interest in tape work finds a welcome complement in Reynolds’ electric guitar wanderings; the pieces are all atmosphere, recording both the sounds and the sounds’ interaction with thin walls.

nonhorse - curse dart - sharks & pfennings –cdr - 7$ sold out

Nonhorse both is and is not G. Lucas Crane. Vanishing voice searsucker psychopomp Nonhorse spins a tape vortex of curse tales and religious corruption. The salt hangs in the air as a Yemeni sheikh breaks the last taboo. Plans go awry and the pastor cant connect with his flock. An entire era of history is lost.
