gown - for the maples – three lobed – lp - 14$
gown (aka andrew macgregor and otherwise known as one-half of the bark haze with thurston moore) moved from western wassachusetts to nova scotia in mid-2007. before he moved, he wanted to have one big audio blow-out to remember the grand old mass times. with that goal in mind, gown went into the studio with the sunburned hand of the man gang (represented this time out by john moloney, sarah o'shea, ron schneiderman and taylor richardson) to melt some audio consoles. for the maples represents a portion of that recorded output and believe us, it's some massive stuff. sunburned's thick funk presents the perfect background for gown's shredding guitar-play. extremely hot stuff, especially the massive side-long "bending close." click here for a downloadable preview, "taylor's jam."
as per the three lobed standard, for the maples is pressed on 180g RTI vinyl. it is housed within silkscreened jackets (screen work by alan sherry / SIWA) bearing new artwork by gown. the record is from an edition of 698 copies and, and as an added convenience for our vinyl friends, will come packaged with a glass-mastered CD (not CD-R) of the material present on the wax.

Clayton Noone should need no introduction here, one half of the jaw-dropping Armpit, one third of the terrifying Wolfskull, and lest we forget that he also adds his essential self in The Futurians, Claypipe and a dozen other bands.
As Noone's solo project CJA catches his sublime nonchalant strum and blur in its most distilled form. Sprawling over 2 disks 'Pink Metal' gathers together songs and drones, weird incidents and hard-out noise to present what is perhaps the definitive CJA statement of intent.
Packaged in a booklet of macabre full colour sci-fi comics (drawn by brother Richard Noone) 'Pink Metal' is perhaps the most collectable of Noone's releases to date.

Dialogue is the first American release by Tokyo's new rising power Hisato Higuchi. Originally a puppeteer, Higuchi has transformed his glacial, shadow-box inspired hand movements to the twilight theater of electric guitar. His six-string tones and hushed vocals fan out from these haunted torch songs and burning embers of Patty Waters and Keiji Haino's quieter, introspective work. Overall, a beautiful meditation and entirely new vision of celestial blues. His seemingly wordless Japanese croon is a smoky, after-hours call of loss or spectral introspection.

Tokyo-based guitarist/singer Hisato Higuchi has shaped an inimitable sound sphere of solitary electric notes that drape across his unearthly moan during the course of two full-lengths and an EP. Channeling loneliness and desires as elegant six-string tone poems, Higuchi has reached the heights of fellow travelers from Meredith Monk to Charalambides.
Though Butterfly Horse Street adds an unexpected snarl as Higuchi erupts into free/noise, wall of sound guitar style that echoes the most ecstatic string manipulation of Masayuki Takayanagi or Donald Miller (Borbetomagus). Ferocious and howling, Higuchi still paints desolation whether bleeding into the red or as hushed beauty.

Mountains is an ongoing collaboration between Apestaartje co-founders Brendon Anderegg and Koen Holtkamp. Having worked in parallel and often overlapping contexts within their respective solo projects (Aero & Anderegg), 'Mountains' was initially created as an outlet for live performance. After numerous performances they decided it was time to document the experience and this their debut album was born. Four lengthy pieces composed around acoustic instrumentation and field recordings gradually blend with subtle electronics and live sampling to create an extremely dynamic and detailed listening experience that ranges from quiet crackling to dense layers of harmonic texture.
