gown (aka andrew macgregor and otherwise known as one-half of the bark haze with thurston moore) moved from western wassachusetts to nova scotia in mid-2007. before he moved, he wanted to have one big audio blow-out to remember the grand old mass times. with that goal in mind, gown went into the studio with the sunburned hand of the man gang (represented this time out by john moloney, sarah o'shea, ron schneiderman and taylor richardson) to melt some audio consoles. for the maples represents a portion of that recorded output and believe us, it's some massive stuff. sunburned's thick funk presents the perfect background for gown's shredding guitar-play. extremely hot stuff, especially the massive side-long "bending close." click here for a downloadable preview, "taylor's jam."
as per the three lobed standard, for the maples is pressed on 180g RTI vinyl. it is housed within silkscreened jackets (screen work by alan sherry / SIWA) bearing new artwork by gown. the record is from an edition of 698 copies and, and as an added convenience for our vinyl friends, will come packaged with a glass-mastered CD (not CD-R) of the material present on the wax.

Originally a puppeteer, Higuchi has transformed his glacial, shadow-box inspired hand movements to the twilight theater of electric guitar. Cornucopia is the premiere sound art project to hail from the island of Puerto Rico. Brisbane avant-blues practitioners The Lost Domain have been stalwarts of the Australian underground for nearly 20 years. Formed around the core duo of guitarist David MacKinnon and organist/vocalist Simon Ellaby they have released a consistently inspiring but all too rare trickle of cdr's and have only recently begun to get the attention that they deserve (via the "Sailor Home From the Sea" CD (Broken Face/Digitalis 2004 (who incidentally promise a follow up "White Man at the Door" later this year)), and some choice compilation slots and magazine interviews).
One of the most intense and engaging live bands I have ever seen their sound is something like a gritty cross between the spacious psychedelic ambient improv noise of New Zealand's Sandoz Lab Technicians, and the weirder swampier blues-stomp of Captain Beefheart.
'Palace' presents a remarkably restrained series of subtle movements and moods that were recorded over a few weekends in the ballroom of 'The Pink Palace', an old and virtually abandoned hall in Brisbane. This is The Lost Domain in full band mode with a line up that includes Leighton Craig, Eugene Carchesio and Rick Neville. Organs and plaintive feedbacking guitars call to each other through the reverberant emptiness. Shackamaxon began back in 2001 when members of Double Leopards, Son of Earth and Magik Markers united to record and create music together. Since that time, the ensemble has quietly unleashed their psychedelic drift through a handful of live performances and a self-released CDr. Their self-titled debut LP presents four pieces of restrained beauty that encapsulates the Shackamaxon sound. The album begins with a side-long excursion where sparse organic textures become enveloped in cavernous layers of sound and perpetually fuzzed drones. It is a steady swell which builds to immense heights before fading into the expanse. Side two starts off with a brief introduction of fluttering tones, then diverges into an intricate passage of controlled feedback chatter and subtle reverberations. The album concludes with what sounds like a field recording from an alien rain forest, capturing strange creatures chirping and gurgling as the humidity drips from the canopy.
